Traveling Taiwan on your own (1 day in Taichung) - Where to go?

After exploring Taipei, Taichung is another city we visited during our trip to Taiwan.

We learned that Taichung is the birthplace of bubble tea.

Taichung is a vintage city with many photogenic spots.

Taichung is also a city with delicious food.

Knowing this, we decided to spend some time in Taichung. Here's a look at our 1-day, 1-night itinerary in Taichung.

We began our journey by purchasing train tickets in advance. The tickets clearly indicated the departure time. We boarded the train at Taipei Main Station.

The journey took approximately 3 hours, covering a distance of 171 kilometers. We had the opportunity to take a nap during the ride.

Upon arrival, we reached Taichung Station.

Its location is also excellent, being close to FENGJIA NIGHT MARKET, where we plan to explore for dinner tonight.

During check-in, we encountered a group of 6-7 Thai tourists, suggesting that this accommodation is already known among Thai travelers.

OURS HOTEL's guest rooms are decorated in a modern style and come equipped with a refrigerator, air conditioning, and a hairdryer.

The rooms also feature a variety of amenities, including a separate bathroom and toilet, which is convenient for guests who are sharing a room.

We had one day in Taichung, and even though we only had half a day to explore, we still managed to visit a few places. We arrived by train and had to kill some time before checking into our hotel.

Rainbow Village

Walking to FENGJIA NIGHT MARKET, you will notice a large number of coin-operated claw machines.

There are so many that it is overwhelming, and there are multiple stalls.

Once you enter FENGJIA NIGHT MARKET, it is very crowded.

Both vendors and customers here will have Street Food, which you can eat while walking.

As for us, we went to find a restaurant to sit down and eat, which is more convenient for us. Hehe.

After having many cups of bubble tea, I decided to try a watermelon smoothie instead.

The watermelon was huge! I ordered a cup with added fresh milk for 25NT. The main reason I bought it was because the seller was so friendly.

Giant Squid is a deep-fried squid dish, with a crispy texture and seasoned with a flavorful powder.

You can choose between spicy or non-spicy options. The squid is large, about the size of your palm. This is a popular Taiwanese street food.

You can also find it in Thailand, but since we're already here, we have to try it!

As we walked around the market, we noticed that each vendor had their own unique way of attracting customers.

They were all very good at grabbing attention.

Here's another item we encountered: mala skewers for 80NT each.

We opted for the skin-on chicken skewers, which the vendor then proceeded to flambé with a fiery flourish.

Freshly grilled and drizzled with chili and fiery mala powder, the skewers were then wrapped in paper and handed to us.

Unable to resist, we immediately took a whiff. The aroma was intoxicating, and the taste, when we finally dug in, was simply divine.

We can take a bus or a taxi, but the bus takes a long time to pass by.

So we decided to take a taxi to Taichung Station. It's really convenient for us.
