Currently, there are many ways to travel from Bangkok. On this trip, I chose the easiest, safest, and most time-saving option: air travel. This was due to the fact that I had booked a round-trip promotional ticket from Bangkok to Krabi and Trang with Asia Airlines. I finally had the opportunity to visit Koh Lanta, which I had always wanted to see. On this trip, I traveled with my friends, and it was a fantastic way to unwind. Our bodies were in desperate need of some SEA vitamin. It took us just over an hour to travel from Bangkok to Krabi Airport.
I then walked to the main road to call a taxi to Koh Lanta. I didn't want to go into Krabi town as it would waste time.
The phone number for the Krabi-Koh Lanta van is 083-637-1115. The fare is approximately 160 baht per person. The journey takes about 2 hours.
After driving for over an hour, it was time to cross the river by boat.
"Let's enjoy the view together. It really is just a moment."
Let's take a picture together on the boat.
History of Koh Lanta
"Lantau" is the name of a large island with an elongated shape, covering an area of 472 square kilometers. It is located within the Ko Lanta District of Krabi Province. Originally, it was a subdistrict under the Khlong Thom District of Mueang Pakasai (Krabi). In 1901, it was elevated to the status of Ko Lanta District. Later, in 1917, the name was changed to Ko Lanta District, which the Ministry of Interior's directory translates as "looking long and flat like a field." Finally, in 1937, the name was reverted to Ko Lanta District.
The name "Lanta" is believed to be a corruption of the Javanese-Malay word "Lantas", which means "shed" or "shelter", referring to a place where fish were grilled. In the past, this large island was a stopover point for Javanese sailors who would grill fish for food. Later, the island became a port town where Chinese and Arab merchants sailing in the waters of Phuket, Penang, Singapore, and Indonesia would stop to rest and trade. Eventually, it became a bustling community.
Ko Lanta consists of two main islands: Ko Lanta Yai and Ko Lanta Noi, separated by a smaller island. All tourist attractions are located on Ko Lanta Yai, which stretches approximately 30 kilometers long and 6 kilometers wide. The island boasts 13 consecutive beaches along its western coast, featuring both rocky and sandy shores. A wide range of accommodation options is available at various price points. The eastern side of the island is home to the ancient community of Ban Si Raya, established over a century ago. This charming village is characterized by narrow wooden houses extending deep into the sea, reflecting the peaceful coexistence of Thai-Chinese and Thai-Muslim communities.
The natural beauty of Koh Lanta Yai extends beyond its beaches. The island boasts the Mu Ko Lanta National Park, situated at the southern tip of the island at Laem Ton Cape. This pristine park features lush rainforests, nature trails, and a prominent white lighthouse that serves as a symbol of Koh Lanta.
After a two-hour journey, I arrived at Klong Nin Beach, my booked accommodation.
