Riding a motorcycle from Kiw Mae Pan, the rain started to drizzle all the way. So I decided to drive past other tourist spots and go up first, then gradually go down. Therefore, the point we came to is called "the highest point of Siam" in a local way. It is located near the Doi Inthanon Report Station, the Air Defense Center, the Air Operations Control Department, the Royal Thai Air Force.

Today's temperature is 14 degrees, thankfully there is no wind.

Not far from here is a stupa.

"Phra That Phra Chao Inthawichayanon" or "Ku Phra Chao Inthawichayanon"

Many people may wonder why the stupa or ku mentioned above is located on Doi Inthanon. The story dates back to 1915 when Princess Consort Dara Rasmi, wife of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), visited and camped on the summit of Doi Inthanon. She ordered the construction of a stupa to enshrine the ashes of King Inthawichayanon, the 7th King of Chiang Mai (1870-1897), who was her father.

The Royal Thai Air Force constructed a smaller stupa next to the original one in 1975 to commemorate and honor King Inthawichayanon. On May 20, 1986, the northern royal family, descendants, monks, air force personnel, and the public agreed that the original stupa had deteriorated. Therefore, they jointly built a new stupa to enclose the base of the original one.

"Phra Chao Inthawichayanon" was the son of Chao Maha Prommakong and Mae Chao Kamla. Born in 2360, he was originally named "Inthanon". He was later appointed as "Chao Burirat Inthanon" in 2399, "Chao Uparat Inthanon" in 2412, and "Chao Luang Inthawichayanon" in 2416.

At the age of 53, "Chao Inthawichayanon" ascended to the throne as the 7th Lord of Chiang Mai. His full name was "Phra Chao Inthawichayanon Phaholthepphakhdi Si Yonang Krachwongsa Maha Prathet Ratchadhiban Nopisi Nakhon Ratchaniphon Damrong Phiphit Chi Yang Krachwongsa Chao Nakhon Chiang Mai".

Following in the footsteps of his predecessors, King Inthawichayanon has made significant contributions to the preservation and promotion of Buddhism, education, culture, and the economy of Chiang Mai.

The "stupa" or "gu", which originally housed the ashes of the Chiang Mai rulers and high-ranking northern lords, was formerly located at the Khwang Meru (Meru courtyard), now known as the "Waro rot market" or "Kad Luang", where the royal cremation ceremony was held.

On the summit of Doi Inthanon, in addition to being the location of the aforementioned stupa or chedi, it also serves as a radar station for the Royal Thai Air Force.

The entire area is densely covered with trees from the rainforest, or cloud forest.

Having paid our respects at the stupa of Chao Intawichaiyanon, we prepared to continue our journey.
