Time slows down in the Pa Pong Piang forest.
Let's go to a homestay by the rice field and climb the stairs at Pa Pong Piang.
Coming here feels like stopping time, allowing you to live life slowly and at your own pace.
Initially, we intended to go to the Chang Phuak Bus Terminal. However, the elderly songthaew driver, noticing our luggage, suggested taking the bus for a more comfortable journey. We decided to follow his advice and boarded the bus instead.
The bus we will be taking is parked near the Chiang Mai Gate. It is the Chiang Mai-Hod route and departs every 40 minutes. We will board the bus around 7:40 AM and the journey will take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The fare is 34 baht per person.
The car dropped us off at the bus station to Mae Chaem. We were in a hurry to catch the 9:30 AM bus, but we arrived just in time to see it pull away. The buses here leave as soon as they are full, so we had to wait for the next one at 11:30 AM. With plenty of time to spare, we decided to visit the Phra That Sri Chom Thong temple.
I had the opportunity to pay respects at Phra That Sri Chom Thong, the Buddha statue for the year of the Rat, which happens to be my birth year. Afterwards, we rushed back to secure a spot on the songthaew.
Upon arrival, we took some photos. As soon as we set off, the car was packed, so we were able to stand up and enjoy the view of Doi Inthanon. The weather was pleasant, and the cool breeze was refreshing. Before leaving, we called Mr. Wichai, the owner of the accommodation we had booked, to pick us up and take us to the village. He dropped us off at the entrance to Mae Pan Waterfall.
The car continued driving in the same direction as the road up to Doi Inthanon. After passing the checkpoint, the car turned left and continued on the road to Mae Chaem District. The road was shaded by trees on both sides, with occasional light fog.
The journey takes approximately 1.30 hours. The car will drop us off at the entrance of Mae Pan Waterfall.
A car from Mae Chaem that is going to Chom Thong just passed by. We will have to come back here tomorrow to catch a ride back.
Mr. Wichai's car, the owner of the house, came to pick us up at the entrance of the road. Let's continue.
The road was slippery due to the rain when we visited. The path leading to the village was a dirt road, making it somewhat difficult to drive, especially during the rainy season. However, with a local guide like Mr. Wichai, there was no need to worry. He drives in and out regularly and knows the route well. If you are driving your own car, it must be a high-clearance vehicle. Also, be careful when driving and watch the road, otherwise you may get stuck.
We have arrived at our accommodation, Baan Ma Chi Po, which we booked in advance. There is phone signal here, but no electricity. However, there is limited solar-powered electricity available. Please bring a power bank if you need to charge your devices.
Ma Chi Po translates to "farmer's son." The Ma Chi Po house is the only one in the village, built on a high hill with stunning views of the rice fields and mountains. For those who have booked with Mr. Wichit, you may be staying in a different house, but the view is equally beautiful.
The front has a balcony for relaxation.
Those who want to enjoy the breeze can lie down here. Mosquito nets are provided.
The interior of the room is simply decorated, with windows that offer a view from the room.
A breathtaking view from Ban Machipo, where lush greenery stretches as far as the eye can see, offering a refreshing escape.
Let's take a walk and enjoy the atmosphere around here. Each house has a balcony in front where you can relax.
Strolling through the rice fields, surrounded by lush greenery, was a refreshing experience. The light rain during the walk kept the temperature pleasant.
The white mist drifted across the rice fields, enveloping the house in a cool embrace.
Just sitting and enjoying the view in front of the house is the ultimate relaxation.
The mountain view in front is obscured by fog, making the background white. The atmosphere is beautiful in a different way.
The sun began to set over the horizon. We were determined to watch the sunset, but today there were many clouds and fog, so we couldn't see the sunset.
Dinner food containers have arrived at the front of the house.
As dusk settled and the sky darkened, we lit the candles provided by the accommodation. The staff delivered our dinner in a traditional Thai food carrier. We prepared to enjoy a simple yet delicious meal. The dishes included stir-fried snow peas, mackerel chili paste, crispy pork rinds, boiled pumpkin, canned fish salad, and omelet.
Before going to bed, Mr. Wichai played the Pakaga'nyo music using the "Tena" instrument, a musical instrument of the Pakaga'nyo people. Its shape and characteristics are similar to a lute. The base is made of lightweight wood, hollowed out. The handle is curved. Strings are stretched between the base and the handle. Even though we couldn't understand the language, we can say that it was very beautiful. Music is truly a universal language. After that, we went to bed. Even though there was no fan, the air was very cool and comfortable.
Waking up to a light drizzle, we gazed out the window of our room. The morning staff brought us hot water and coffee, so we decided to enjoy a cup of coffee as we watched the rain.
Here's a beautiful rainbow for you to enjoy.
Breakfast is delivered to your doorstep, allowing you to enjoy your meal with a view of the light mist. The breakfast consists of rice porridge with pork, stir-fried Chinese cabbage, Chinese sausage, and boiled eggs.
The fog has started to roll in again.
Picturesque atmosphere of a hut in the middle of a rice field
Pong Piang Forest is another tourist destination that I would like to recommend to my friends. The natural atmosphere is amazing, it's like escaping from the hustle and bustle. Come and slow down your life. Don't forget to find a chance to follow me to chill at Pong Piang Forest.
Journey to Pa Pong Piang
We arrived at the entrance of Mae Pan Waterfall, where Wichit dropped us off. Usually, on the way back, we would have to wait for a car coming from Mae Chaem, take it to Chom Thong, and then take a songthaew back to Chiang Mai.
However, on the day we went, there was a Doi Inthanon uphill running event, which caused traffic delays. We waited for a car from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, but there was still no sign of one. We were worried about losing time as we had to continue our trip to Chiang Dao, so we decided to hitchhike.
Luckily, a kind driver in a red pickup truck stopped for us. Initially, we only asked to be dropped off at Chom Thong, but he was heading to Chiang Mai anyway, so he took us all the way to Hang Dong. We are very grateful to the driver of the red pickup truck. He drove fast and efficiently, and we arrived in Chiang Mai around 1:00 PM.
From there, we took a bus to the Chang Phuak bus terminal to continue our journey to Chiang Dao. Stay tuned for the next episode of Aod's adventures! This concludes our trip to Pa Pong Piang.
