Phu Fah Sa Jea, Doi Pha Mi, Chiang Rai Province
Nestled amidst the verdant mountains of Doi Pha Hom, a serene haven awaits. The picturesque village offers breathtaking panoramic views of rolling hills, inviting visitors to unwind and embrace the tranquility of nature. Upon waking, a gentle mist envelops the surroundings, creating an ethereal ambiance that sets the tone for a rejuvenating day.
Our journey to Doi Pha Hom was inspired by the captivating tale of the 13 Wild Boars who were trapped in the Tham Luang Nang Non cave. As we delved deeper into the story, the name Doi Pha Hom resonated with us, piquing our curiosity about this enigmatic destination. Intrigued by the village's idyllic setting amidst the mountains, we couldn't resist the allure of embarking on an adventure to explore its hidden treasures. With eager anticipation, we packed our bags and set off on our expedition to the heart of Doi Pha Hom.
For our accommodation, we opted for "Phu Fah Sajaeh," a charming homestay nestled within the village. This intimate retreat boasts only four cozy rooms, each offering a unique experience. We were particularly drawn to the special room, which features a private balcony with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. To enhance our morning ritual, the room thoughtfully provides a selection of teas to savor as we soak in the tranquility of the sunrise. Moreover, Phu Fah Sajaeh offers a delectable array of local dishes, including aromatic teas, freshly brewed coffee, and authentic Akha cuisine, inviting guests to embark on a culinary journey that tantalizes the taste buds.
Doi Pha Hom is the ancestral home of the Akha people, an indigenous hill tribe residing in the Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai province. Perched at an elevation of approximately 1,400 meters above sea level, the village was once plagued by the scourge of drug trafficking and opium cultivation, as its strategic location made it a conduit for illicit cross-border activities. However, a transformative event occurred when His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the revered ninth monarch of Thailand, graced the village with his presence. His compassionate visit marked a turning point for the community, paving the way for improved living conditions and sustainable livelihoods. Through the introduction of coffee cultivation and the construction of accessible roads, the villagers were empowered to break free from the clutches of illicit activities and embrace a brighter future. Today, Doi Pha Hom has blossomed into a thriving tourist destination, welcoming visitors from near and far who seek to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage and breathtaking natural beauty of the region. The influx of tourism has generated much-needed income for the villagers, enabling them to lead more prosperous and fulfilling lives.
Before reaching the village, you will encounter a bear statue. This indicates that you have arrived at Pha Mi Village.
Upon entering the village, you will see the accommodation on the hilltop.
Turn right at the accommodation sign and drive in. The road is a bit steep, so drive slowly up and down. We rented a CITY car and had no problem driving up.
You can drive up the hill and park your car in front of the accommodation.
In front of the accommodation, there is a picture of Father Luang Sajaeh when he received King Rama IX. His Majesty also enjoyed tea in this area.

Let's go upstairs and grab a coffee.

In the afternoon, it rained. When the rain stopped, a beautiful rainbow appeared.
After finishing my coffee, I took the opportunity to visit Tham Luang Khun Nam Nang Non. Currently, the area is open for visitors to pay respects at the Nang Non Shrine, but the Tham Luang cave itself remains closed to the public.
A short drive will take you to Mae Sai, where you can visit the Doi Wao temple or go shopping at the Mae Sai market.
The view of the Burmese side is also visible.
On the way back, the sun began to set, so I stopped to take a picture of Khao Nang Non in the evening light.
The accommodation for the night. I'm going to take a shower and go to bed. The weather is getting cold and the accommodation has a water heater.
Waking up to open the door to the room, I was greeted by the white mist.

Sipping tea while admiring the morning mist from the room, the atmosphere is amazing.
As I sat and enjoyed the view, the fog began to roll in, enveloping the village. The scene that unfolded before me was breathtakingly beautiful in a different way.
The accommodation offers breakfast. Enjoy your meal upstairs while taking in the beautiful view.
If you're looking for Akha tribal cuisine, this is the place to be. We ordered the "Khao Puk," a popular Akha snack made from pounded sticky rice that is deep-fried until crispy. It's delicious dipped in a mixture of sugar and sesame seeds, or even condensed milk.
It's so relaxing to lie down and enjoy the view here, I don't want to get up and go anywhere.
For those seeking a relaxing getaway amidst nature, consider visiting Phu Fah Sa Jae.
