Living in Bangkok, it can be difficult to decide where to go for a weekend getaway. We often choose nearby destinations like Hua Hin, Pattaya, or Chonburi, all within a 3-hour drive. However, this time we decided to venture further and explore Khon Kaen, a province in the northeastern region of Thailand.

With a flight time of only 50 minutes from Bangkok, Khon Kaen is easily accessible, especially with the availability of early morning flights. This allows for a full day of exploration.

Seeking a change of scenery and a break from the Bangkok café scene, we decided to visit Eight a Day, a café located near Khon Kaen University in the Kangsadan area.

A charming loft-style cafe offering delicious breakfast and coffee. A must-visit for all trendy individuals.

Our next stop was our accommodation, this time we chose to stay at the Avani Khon Kaen Hotel, located in the heart of the city. The hotel's main features include its conference rooms, restaurants, and beautiful guest rooms.

The facilities here are quite complete, including a restaurant, bar, spa, swimming pool, and fitness center. For those who live in Khon Kaen, the fitness center here is also worth considering, as it is affordable.

This trip was all about relaxation, so we opted for a luxurious stay at the hotel. After checking in, we headed straight to the spa for an oil massage. The therapist's skillful hands worked wonders, leaving us feeling completely rejuvenated and stress-free.

This hotel also has a Chinese restaurant. We went down for lunch and they have a buffet on Saturdays and Sundays. You can order anything you want, all you can eat, and the portions are huge.

We stayed in an Avani Premier Room, a corner room with stunning city views. We loved the view and took some amazing photos.

We loved the abundance of fruits, tea, and coffee provided in the room. It was a great way to satisfy late-night cravings.

As mentioned earlier, Avani Khon Kaen boasts a bar called London Inn, which offers an authentic English pub experience. The ambiance is reminiscent of a classic British film, complete with live music.

The food selection may be limited as the restaurant focuses more on drinks. However, the food is good, with large portions that will leave you satisfied. We ordered nachos and stir-fried basil, which were both delicious. The food prices are also reasonable.

The next morning, before we headed back to Bangkok, the hotel breakfast was surprisingly good. There was a wide variety of food, including everything you would expect for breakfast, such as sticky rice with grilled pork and American breakfast options.

For those seeking a relaxing getaway, Khon Kaen offers a tranquil alternative. With its unhurried pace and limited tourist crowds, this city caters to those who prefer a laid-back atmosphere. Khon Kaen boasts a wealth of hidden gems waiting to be explored. Stay tuned for future updates on these captivating destinations.
