Today, I had the opportunity to take my mother to try northern Thai food in the Lat Krabang area. This restaurant was her request, as she had seen it featured on a television program.

Lanna Origin (ล้านนา ออริจิน)

This restaurant claims to offer authentic northern Thai cuisine from Chiang Mai, alongside dishes like steaks and pasta.

The restaurant is located on Lat Krabang Road and is open from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM. There is convenient parking available for approximately 20 cars.

Stepping into the restaurant, a refreshing wave of cool air from the air conditioner greets you. The beautifully decorated interior creates a pleasant atmosphere, inviting you to linger and enjoy your meal. With comfortable sofa seating, a bar area, and dining tables, the restaurant offers a variety of seating options to suit your preference.

Note:

Shortly after placing our order, the first dish arrived within 15 minutes. It was the **Appetizer Set**, served in a traditional northern Thai Khantoke tray. The set included: * **Nam Prik Num**: A spicy green chili dip. * **Nam Prik Ong**: A dry, stir-fried red chili dip with a slightly spicy flavor. * **Moo Yor**: A northern Thai sausage with a fragrant black pepper aroma. * **Sai Oua**: A grilled northern Thai sausage with a moderate sourness. * **Jin Som**: A fermented pork dish with a slightly spicy flavor. * **Khao Niao**: Sticky rice. * **Khap Moo**: Deep-fried pork skin with a moderate amount of fat attached. The Khap Moo had a crispy texture without being overly hard. The Nam Prik Ong had a dry, finely ground texture with a mild spiciness. The Nam Prik Num paired well with the Khap Moo. The Moo Yor had a fragrant black pepper aroma. The Jin Som had a moderate sourness. The highlight was the Sai Oua, which had a delicious aroma of spices and a slightly spicy flavor. This dish was a particular favorite of our group. Overall, the Appetizer Set was a delicious and highly recommended choice.

  • Hang Lay Curry is a rich and aromatic curry with a strong ginger flavor. The pork is stewed until it is tender and the spices have permeated the meat.

  • Laab Kua is a northern-style laab that includes ground pork and pork liver with a generous amount of laab sauce. It is topped with fried garlic and dried chili peppers. This dish was not particularly appealing. The laab lacked fragrance and spice, and the vegetables were sparse. Overall, the flavors were underwhelming.

Grilled Fish with Sweet Greens and Crispy Mushrooms

This dish features a rich and spicy broth infused with the smoky aroma of grilled fish. The tender young shoots of sweet greens and the crispy texture of mushrooms create a delightful contrast in textures. This dish is a true standout, earning its title as "The Best."

  • Khao Kan Jin: Steamed sticky rice mixed with pork blood that has been kneaded with herbs, wrapped in banana leaves and steamed. This dish was the first time I had ever tried it. The rice was fragrant with the scent of banana leaves, and it paired well with the Hang Lay curry.

The overall taste of the food was good. The service was excellent, with the owner checking in on us regularly and showing great care for the customers. The total bill came to 625 baht, but with a 10% discount, it was reduced to 576.50 baht. Considering the quality of the food, it was good value for money.

If you have the chance to pass by Lat Krabang Road, I highly recommend checking it out. It might be a bit of a journey if you're located in the city center, but I assure you, it's worth the trip.
