Three Sen Sam Place, or the former residence of Luang Wichayenrangkan (Chue Israngkan Na Ayutthaya)

Rattanakosin Island, as we all know, has been a center of prosperity for a long time. Every alley and corner on this island has stories to tell. The architecture from various eras is a testament to the enduring prosperity and the long-standing artistic and cultural heritage. Rattanakosin Island was home to the royal court, nobles, and high-ranking officials, as evidenced by the numerous palaces scattered around the island, both those that remain and those that have been sadly demolished and rebuilt.

Lush and verdant surroundings.

One of the old houses, a house of a royal official during the reign of King Rama VI, which is still preserved in the form of a boutique hotel, is Samsen 3 Place. In the past, it was the home of the royal physician who assisted in the birth of Her Royal Highness Princess Bejaratana Rajasuda Sirisobhaphannavadhana, Luang Vaidyesarangkura (Chua Isarangkura Na Ayutthaya). It was also a women's clinic before being renovated into a boutique hotel.

The house is divided into four sections. The first section is the private living quarters of the homeowner. The remaining three sections comprise the hotel, including a new building at the rear, a half-timbered building known as the Nariwet Building in the center, and a wooden house at the front.

Let's first take a look at the new building, which is the rear building. This building is a typical residential building, but it is decorated with artistic images on each floor. The floor tiles connecting the rooms are also beautiful. My favorite is the carved wooden vents that adorn each floor.

The area below is reserved for older siblings to relax. It is open, airy, and well-proportioned.

Triple Room

This building offers a variety of room types, including double rooms, single rooms, and even rooms that can accommodate three guests. Each room has a balcony that opens to the city atmosphere and the scenery of Lamphu Road, stretching to Bang Lamphu. This open space allows for natural ventilation, but all rooms are also equipped with air conditioning for the comfort of our guests.

Amenities

In addition, there is a special room on the 5th floor for those who enjoy walking. This room offers the exclusive privilege of a wider balcony than any other room, providing stunning views of the Chao Phraya River. It is perfect for hosting small parties of 5-6 people. Moreover, the back door of the room opens to a breathtaking view of the cityscape of Rattanakosin Island. This unique room is the only one of its kind on the 5th floor.

Let's take a look at the second section, which used to be a women's clinic. It is a half-timbered building divided into rooms, with shared communal bathrooms on each floor, which are sufficient for the needs of the residents.

The first floor is painted pink and decorated with various images, preserving its original character, as evidenced by the door panels.

The second floor is entirely made of wood, with the original polished wooden floorboards still meticulously maintained, gleaming with a warm luster.

Double room

This building offers both single and double rooms, with air conditioning and fan options. It is a popular choice among international travelers.

The Samsen Sam Suite: A Classic Charm

The Samsen Sam Suite boasts a captivating entrance, exuding warmth and classic charm with its traditional furnishings. The door is adorned with stained glass, while stained glass vents and push-out windows add to the ambiance. The dark-stained wooden bed and antique-style chairs create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.

The bathroom is spacious and comfortable.

The Samsen Sam Suite in green is longer than the pink room, which is wider.

Solid wood furniture in the room

The green bathroom uses a play on levels of color to create a contrast between the interior and exterior.

Adorned with wood, stained glass, and tiles.

Samsen Sam Suite Green

Following the pink Samsen Sam Suite and the green room, the Deluxe Antique room, which is slightly smaller, can be found down the hallway between the pastel-colored rooms. We will be staying in this room tonight.

Purple Room

The room's floor is pink with a light purple accent, and I love the lines of the bars on the push-out windows and the dark purple curtains that look good when the light hits them. I also love the bathroom because it's big, airy, and comfortable. It's decorated with light orange curtains and accented with turquoise tiles, polished wood floors, and colored glass. It looks great together. We decided to sleep in this room after looking around because it's not too small or too big, it's half-building and half-wood in the front of the building, and the price is reasonable.

Breakfast Room

After a comfortable night's sleep, the hotel offers a set breakfast menu. While waiting for breakfast, I noticed that most of the guests were foreigners. It's a pity that there weren't many Thai people, even though the architecture is fascinating. I wonder how long it will last. In a world that changes so quickly, it's nice to escape the hustle and bustle and stay in an old house that is still full of stories. I soak up the old atmosphere, which may have changed somewhat over time, and hope that it will be preserved for many years to come.
