Spicy pork bone soup, the best in Huai Khwang, located in Pracha Songkhro Road Soi 36. Enter 100 meters and you will find a soi on the right, turn right.

The Huai Khwang and Sutthisan areas are known for their abundance of restaurants and entertainment options. Numerous eateries, both large and small, are hidden within the alleys and side streets. On a recent visit to the Ratchada area, I drove through Huai Khwang in search of a place to eat. A friend suggested a newly opened restaurant located on Pracha Songkhro Road Soi 36. I was confused, as a newly opened restaurant should not be considered an old establishment.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the establishment had actually been operating as a Thai, Isaan, and Chinese restaurant for an extended period under the name "Lerdsorn Thai-Chinese Restaurant." However, they expanded their operations to cater to street food enthusiasts, particularly those seeking spicy and flavorful dishes. One such offering is the "Leng," a spicy pork bone soup, which proved to be a popular choice among patrons.

The shop is air-conditioned and comfortable to sit in.

This restaurant is easy to find. Simply enter Soi Pracha Songkhro 36 and drive for about 100 meters. The first alley on the right will be directly opposite the 7-Eleven, behind Dr. Somchai's clinic. Turn into the alley and you will see the Meng Yaowarat 9 gold shop. Drive a little further and you will find "Leng Zap Aroy Sud @ Huai Khwang". Enter the restaurant and order your food.

Various menus

After reviewing the menu, we realized that the restaurant offered a wide variety of dishes, including Thai, Isaan Thai, and Chinese cuisine. From soups to stir-fries, curries, and fried dishes, the options were overwhelming. My friend suggested that since we were at a restaurant specializing in pork ribs, we should definitely try their signature dish, the large pork ribs. We also ordered several other dishes based on our individual preferences, as the reasonable prices allowed us to indulge in a variety of options.

Corn pounding

Crab pounding

After ordering food, we sat and chatted. Two plates of papaya salad were served. When I looked back, there was only debris left. Oh my god, I couldn't keep up with my friends. I didn't wait long, just the wind blew and the papaya salad was gone. The star of the show was then placed in front of me. Oh my god, this is it! "Giant ribs" in a bowl the size of a washbasin.

The owner of the shop personally served the food.

A Culinary Legacy: From Grandmother's Kitchen to Renowned Restaurant

The friend turned to look and smiled broadly, nodding vigorously. "Yes, and a 'Giant Leng' is a must for someone of our stature," she declared. After the owner, Mr. Jao, brought the food and greeted them warmly, they chatted and ate, discovering that the family had a deep culinary heritage. The grandmother had sold noodles in Chaiyaphum, instilling in them a lifelong love of cooking. Notably, the grandmother's broth, made with carefully selected premium ingredients, had captivated customers. Inspired by her recipe, the family created their own signature broth, simmered for over 4-5 hours, establishing the restaurant's reputation for exceptional flavor.

Giant Spicy Pork Bone Soup from Leang Zaap Restaurant, a Delicious Choice in Huai Khwang

The broth was fragrant and flavorful, with a hint of sweetness from the boiled bones. The spiciness from the chili peppers was present but not overpowering, creating a well-balanced and harmonious flavor profile. The soup was so delicious that it could be enjoyed all night long.

Indispensable Som Tum Trays, Already Devoured 2 Plates

The next dish was a papaya salad platter. Unlike the usual metal trays, this one was served on a wooden platter, giving it a more elegant touch. It came with various ingredients, including fermented pork sausage, seafood, crispy fish, salted egg, and assorted vegetables. The flavors were well-balanced, with the freshness of the ingredients complementing the sour, spicy, salty, and sweet notes of the papaya salad.

Grilled meat

The dish was grilled to perfection, with tender and juicy meat. It was served with two dipping sauces: a sweet and sour tamarind sauce and a spicy jaew sauce. Each sauce offered a unique flavor profile, making the dish a delightful culinary experience. The meat was so tender that it practically melted in our mouths, making it a truly enjoyable meal.

Deep-fried Sea Bass with Fish Sauce

This dish is a true omega-3 booster, thanks to the incredibly fresh sea bass. The fish is expertly fried, achieving a crispy exterior and a tender interior. It comes with three dipping sauces: seasoned fish sauce, mango salad, and seafood sauce. All three sauces complement the fish perfectly, and before long, you'll find yourself devouring the entire plate.

Green Curry with Seafood and Rice Noodles

This dish appears to be a deliberate departure from the norm: green curry with seafood served with rice noodles. Glancing at my friend's face, I questioned with a look who had ordered it. My friend responded with a look that simply said they were hungry. Okay, I understand. In that case, let me try some too. Although the green curry broth may not appear very thick, it exudes the pungent aroma of a well-spiced curry paste. Upon tasting, the fragrance fills the nostrils. It is not overly spicy, but rather sweet and creamy due to the coconut milk added to the curry. It pairs well with the rice noodles served alongside.

Crispy Morning Glory Salad

The initial impression was one of grandeur, with the waiter presenting a massive dish that prompted us to collectively exclaim "Wow!". The stir-fried morning glory, arranged in a crispy mound, retained its texture even after a considerable time. This was not simply due to its longevity on the table; the clever arrangement placed the morning glory on top, away from the curry sauce, ensuring its crispness. Meanwhile, the sauce below absorbed the flavors of the dish, resulting in a delightful combination of spicy, salty, sweet, and savory notes. The contrasting textures of the crispy vegetables and the rich sauce made for a truly enjoyable culinary experience.

Deep-fried chicken with fish sauce

The dish arrived a little late, but the chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, making it truly delicious. Paired with beer, it was simply superb. Each dish offered a unique and delightful flavor, which is no surprise considering the restaurant's recommendation by "Krua Khun Hrid." Despite its unassuming appearance, this establishment is truly extraordinary. Beyond the delectable cuisine, the owner's warm hospitality shines through as they personally engage with customers at each table, inquiring about their dining experience. This exceptional service guarantees a repeat visit in the near future.
