About an hour and a half from the city of Mae Hong Son, there is a mountain called Doi Pui.
Doi Pui: A Village Experience in the Mountains
Nestled in the village of Ban Huai Hee, Doi Pui offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the local culture. The village boasts a community-based tourism group and homestays that allow visitors to share living spaces with the Pa'ga'nyo people. To arrange a visit, contact Uncle Saju at 086-432-7255. Note that mobile reception is limited in the area. Uncle Saju can arrange accommodation within the village and provide guides for exploring the surroundings. Alternatively, visitors can choose to camp before reaching the summit of Doi Pui.
I rode a motorbike from Mae Hong Son city center along this route https://goo.gl/maps/VVcMsANtrNy. Open Maps and follow me. When you reach the village, ask the villagers for Uncle Saju's house. When you find Uncle Saju, talk to him. He will arrange for a guide for you. From Uncle Saju's house, ride your motorbike for another 2 kilometers (the road is not very good) to reach the starting point of the hike. Hike up to the campsite for another 2 kilometers (not steep but all uphill). It takes about 2 hours to reach the campsite. From the campsite, it takes 10 minutes to walk to the top of the hill for sunset and sunrise views. There is phone signal on the top.
A guide named Tiwa will be available to assist with carrying belongings, finding firewood, building a fire, and preparing dinner (if camping and bringing your own food). Tiwa's fee is only 800 baht.
In summary, if you intend to follow these steps.
1. Call this number 086-432-7255, Uncle Saju, to inform him that we will be visiting. Let him know if we will be staying in a homestay or camping.
2. From Mae Hong Son town, follow this route https://goo.gl/maps/VVcMsANtrNy to Ban Huai Ho. Ask for Uncle Sa-Ju's house as there is no signal.
3. Arrived.
