Let the adventure begin!
Before I tell you about this trip, I didn't plan it in advance. It started when I saw a promotion for a flight to Auckland for a really good price on the Ar-pae page, only a little over ten thousand baht. So my dream trip didn't have to be a dream anymore.
Plane tickets..including tickets + luggage weight (I can't buy it. I have to prepare a lot of food for this country) + meals on board (I have to buy this too. It's a long flight, but it's served 2 meals, so it's worth it) The price is 19,xxx baht!!
Visa New Zealand: Relax and chill with minimal crowds, unlike the stress of Schengen visas. Plus, you can apply as a group if you're traveling with more than 3 people, as long as you arrive and depart together. This saves you thousands per person! In just 3 days, the officer called to return your passport. However, the group visa is just one sheet of paper. My friend and I laughed, thinking, "I paid over ten thousand baht for this?!"
Pack your bags! Of course, when traveling to this country, it's advisable to bring dried food and various seasoning powders to cook your own meals. This will make your trip much more economical and enjoyable. It's recommended to bring items with English labels, as you'll need to go through the Declare channel. If you don't declare and they find it during inspection, you'll be fined, which will definitely put a damper on your trip. Plus, there are little sniffer dogs checking every bag. The majority of people (80%) go through the Declare channel, but the Immigration officers are very relaxed and friendly. They're not as strict as in Australia.
DAY 2 - We arrived in Melbourne in the late morning. I must say that among the 3 countries we visited, Australia has the strictest immigration. No fresh food is allowed! But in the end, we arrived in Auckland around 6pm. We called the hotel to pick us up with a car and checked into our accommodation in downtown Auckland. Then we went out to find something to eat. Auckland is full of Korean and Japanese restaurants. The hotel staff, cafes, and students are all full of black hair, Asians, and Indians! It's so comfortable to blend in.
DAY 3 We woke up early to pick up our rental car. We chose Apex, a well-known brand, for peace of mind. We rented a Nissan Wingroad because it was the cheapest SUV available. The car was in decent condition, but on the way, our powerful Wingroad made our fellow Western travelers open their windows and shout at us (but they looked like the car was about to explode). The truth is, the hubcap was about to fall off, and one of them did fall off because the plastic that held it in place broke. However, Apex didn't charge us extra, probably because it happens often.
Our trip started at the North Island. The highlight of the trip was Hobbiton, located in the town of Matamata. By the time we arrived, it was almost 4 pm and it was drizzling. But since we were already there, we had to explore it.
Night 2, slept at Lake Taupo. The accommodation was okay, but the kitchen was huge! I loved it.
DAY 4 - The weather today is still cloudy, so I couldn't see the beautiful Lake Taupo (I was wondering if NZ was really beautiful in the first few days). Before heading to the capital Wellington, let's go back to Wai-O-Tapu for a bit, because yesterday we didn't have time to see the Lady Knox Geyser erupt at 10:15 am. But as a tour group, we definitely won't make it in time!! 555+ (Sometimes the advantage of traveling on your own is that you can set your own pace, but it's also good to have people with similar styles on the trip. This trip is not about the quantity (of places to visit), but about having fun chatting in the car and doing things together).
We arrived in Wellington in the evening and checked into our accommodation. We cooked dinner and prepared lunch boxes to take on the Interislander ferry (Apex car rentals include free vehicle ferry, but there is a passenger fee of NZD 69 per person). We will be taking the ferry to the South Island.
DAY 5 - Get ready to board the ferry! Let me tell you, the boat is amazing, huge, and the view is breathtaking.
We've arrived at Blenheim! This town is so beautiful, peaceful, and charming. I love it here, and I love our accommodation too. The kind uncle and his adorable dog named Dudley are the best.
Love at first sight!! This is the perfect place to use it. I don't know what city it is, but it's so beautiful. Plus, the sky is blue. This southern island is what makes me say that I'm in love with NZ.
DAY 6 - Leaving Blenheim, we stopped by Punakaiki to see the Pancake Rocks/Blowholes. At first, we just stopped by because it was on the way, and we didn't think much of it. But when we got there, it was so beautiful! Plus, it was quiet and there weren't many tourists. We fell in love with it all over again.
After leaving Punakaiki, we checked into our accommodation in Greymouth. We had a good night's sleep and are ready to continue our journey.
DAY 7 - From Greymount, we passed through the town of Hokitika, stopping for a quick photo at the clock tower (really quick) and visiting Hokitika Gorge, which we stumbled upon online. We almost gave up on the journey because it was so far away and there was hardly anyone around. But when we finally got there, it was like heaven. Highly recommended! It's much more beautiful than the Blue Pool.
We have arrived at Franz Josef Glacier. The glacier has walking trails of various levels, with varying durations.
If you're looking for the best accommodation on this trip, I highly recommend Perivale Farm Cottage. It's a farm stay owned by a dairy farmer who also raises chickens, ducks, and goats. We were welcomed with fresh eggs and milk straight from the cow. At night, we lit a fire to keep warm and opened the windows to see a sky full of stars, more beautiful than any planetarium. It was the most romantic place we stayed.
DAY 8 - Travel to another amazing city, Wanaka. On the way, we stopped by Lake Matheson, but the weather wasn't cooperating, so we didn't get to see the mirror lake that many people have reviewed.
Another option is the salmon farm, which many people recommend visiting to buy and try. Let me tell you, don't bother! It's best to skip it, as there are many other great things waiting for you.
Blue Pool If you haven't been to Hokitika Gorge before, this place would be amazing!!
The view on the way...so beautiful I could cry.
Wanaka, a charming city you shouldn't miss. Now I understand why everyone talks about it.
DAY 9 - Today we went to Cromwell, the fruit town. We couldn't miss stopping by Aunt Jones' shop (Jone's Fruit Stall) to buy a lot of the popular Manuka honey. It's a bit heavy on the wallet, but it's worth it.
Stop by another cute town, vintage style Arrowtown
Before arriving at your accommodation in Queenstown, drive another 60-70 km to the town of Glenorchy, the filming location for The Lord of the Rings.
Enter Queenstown, a bustling city with plenty of activities.
Queenstown Panorama View is truly beautiful.
After finishing the Luge, coming down from the Gondola, I was just hungry. For this meal, I decided to have Korean BBQ. It's not hard to find, it's right in the Down Town zone. The sellers are real Koreans.
DAY 10 - The next day, we prepared for a long journey to Lake Tekapo.
The view of "Mt. Cook" along the way was breathtaking. Before arriving at the real salmon farm, we had to visit "Mt. Cook Alpine Salmon Farm".
Come well-prepared with your homework, wasabi powder, and miso from home.
We have arrived at the smallest church in NZ, "Church of Good Shepherd"
DAY 11 - Before departing from a domestic flight from Christchurch back to Auckland
Thinking of Pure 100% NZ...whoever has been to Switzerland and said it's beautiful, you must try coming here. You will fall in love with NZ.
