Hello friends, I'm here to share a lovely story from Shirakawa-go, a village in Takayama known as the "Living World Heritage."

"Traveling broadens our horizons," this quote inspired my partner and me to embark on a journey of exploration. We created a small page called "Escape Work, Travel" and a blog at www.ibreak2travel.com. Reading this far, we want to say...

Years ago, when we first met, "I was a tourist with a full-time job, and my partner was a full-time worker who longed to travel." We were so different. When we started dating, our differences found a balance, leading us to the point where we wanted to create a page to take fellow working friends on trips with us.

If we can do it, anyone can do it our way. We'd appreciate it if you could visit our page and give us a Like. It would mean a lot to us (don't forget to set it to See First or "See First"). That way, we'll know you're still with us.

Shirakawa-go, the "Living World Heritage"

Another place we would like to invite our friends to visit and admire the beauty of the red leaves with the village view is truly amazing. This village has been registered as the 6th World Heritage Site of Japan. It is a cultural World Heritage Site. Interestingly, **"This World Heritage Site is still inhabited"**. There are only a few places in the world that are registered as World Heritage Sites even though they are not ancient sites, and Shirakawa Village is one of them.

The Allure of a Picturesque Village

Nestled amidst breathtaking natural surroundings, this village captivates visitors with its unparalleled beauty. Situated in a valley in northern Gifu Prefecture (central Japan), the village offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. The journey to the village itself is a visual feast, with the ever-changing scenery captivating the senses. The vibrant hues of the mountains transform with the seasons, creating a kaleidoscope of colors. During the autumn foliage season, the mountains erupt in a fiery display of reds, yellows, and greens, leaving an unforgettable impression on all who witness it.

Arrive early for fewer crowds and enjoy taking cool photos.

Leaves in various shades of red and yellow create a beautiful contrast.

There are also yellow leaves.

The unique feature of this village is the triangular gable roof of the houses.

The local term for this architectural style is "Kiritsuma-Gassho-zukuri," which translates to "gassho," meaning "hands in prayer." This style of house construction has been practiced for over 250 years.

The wisdom behind the "gassho" style of house construction

To prevent snow accumulation on the roof during winter, the house structure is very strong. The design also considers the direction of light to keep the house warm in winter and cool in summer.

Traditional "Gaso" style house

Most of the villagers here are engaged in agriculture.

If you are planning to visit Shirakawa Village,

Arrive early and stay overnight in Takayama (a travel review will be provided later). Take the first bus at 7:50 AM, which takes only 50 minutes to reach the village.

Upon arrival, head to the viewpoint. You can either walk or take the village bus. The bus stop is located near the lotus pond, close to the Nohi Bus stop (a map can be obtained at the tourist information center). The journey to the viewpoint takes approximately 10 minutes.
