Have you ever traveled a long distance just to stand there and do nothing?
Here are 5 stunning views of Phang Nga Bay that will leave you breathless.
"Phang Nga: Rainforests and Southern Charm"
...still venturing south, captivated by the beauty of the sea, the slightly humid air, and the lush nature of the forests and mountains. Especially here in Phang Nga, which I once thought was just a quiet town, a gateway to Phuket province. Let me tell you... I was wrong (very, very wrong). There's so much more to discover, so many places we haven't reached yet.
And with the charm of a few photographs from a traveler, we left the city that had everything, to come to a place that had only… us, him, and the sea.
The view from the airplane window as it flew over Phang Nga on its approach to Phuket Airport was breathtaking. The islands in the middle of the sea were a sight to behold. Even from above, the beauty of Phang Nga was captivating. We decided to descend and drive from Phuket to Takua Pa District, Phang Nga Province, a distance of just over 50 kilometers, which took about an hour and a half.
~ Transportation: There are no direct flights to Phang Nga province. We can fly to **Phuket province** and drive across the Sarasin Bridge to **Phang Nga province** via Highway 402. Then, drive to Thao Uthao sub-district.
...Looking up at the sky, the atmosphere today is rather gloomy. Large clouds are beginning to float prominently. The sky in Phuket is a bit cloudy, but that's what the rainy season is like. Anyway, let's take a chance. We set off in the late morning by private car, thinking it would be the most convenient way to get to 5 places. And now the travel group is ready. Cameras are ready, let's go!
1. Sip coffee with a view of the bay from the treetops.
The journey has begun for a while now, driving past Baan Tha Yu. Let's refuel with some 'caffeine' at the treetop cafe. Yes! Let's sit and sip coffee up there. :)
: : TREE CUPS Phang Nga Coffee is a coffee shop located on a tree, offering stunning views of "Phang Nga Bay." Getting there requires a bit of maneuvering. From the pier, drive towards Khao Som sub-district for about ten kilometers.
The entrance to the alley is on the left-hand side, marked by a sign (you might need to look carefully). Drive straight ahead following the signs, passing through a garden. After driving a considerable distance, you will see the restaurant on the right-hand side, above you (look up high). The restaurant is located near the treetops. The parking lot is located below the restaurant and can accommodate several cars.
Before heading upstairs, order your drinks from the staff downstairs. They offer a menu with coffee, light meals like spaghetti, and cakes. The selection isn't extensive, and the prices are moderate. Coffee starts at 60 baht per cup. Since we were primarily interested in coffee, we ordered an iced coffee and a piece of shredded egg yolk cake to try. In our opinion, the coffee was strong and enjoyable (we ordered a menu item using premium coffee beans). However, the cake was a bit small.
After that, we continued walking up a long bridge that stretched to the treetop cafe. We received coffee and snacks at the top. Now, looking down, we were surrounded by greenery and lush trees. We found a good corner to sit and relax, sipping coffee while enjoying the view of Phang Nga Bay.
Note TREE CUPS is open from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only) | The upstairs can accommodate about one person, the area is not very wide. If you go when there are a lot of people, you have to wait in line downstairs.
Coordinates: 8.369916, 98.436802 | Located in Khao Som Subdistrict, Takua Thung District, Phang Nga Province.
Retrace your steps and drive into Ban Tha Yu, Khlong Khian Subdistrict, Takua Thung District. Follow the path to discover the breathtaking views that are said to be hidden here.
Turn left into Soi Ban Tha Yu, which is on the left-hand side. Before reaching the bridge, you will see a pedestrian bridge as a landmark. Then, turn left and drive for about 15 kilometers to reach our destination. I don't know what the road ahead is like, but I only know that the 'mountain' ahead is calling me to hurry up and find it.
Point 2: Falling in love with the beautiful scenery along the way.
The breathtaking view of the bay on the left, with a foreground of lush pineapple fields, almost made us slam on the brakes. Unable to resist, we pulled over and ventured into the pineapple patch (they're quite prickly!). The scene before us was both beautiful and refreshing. Let's call this spot the "Pineapple Bay Viewpoint".
~ The exact location is not specified, as you will encounter other pineapple farms as you drive along. Feel free to choose whichever one catches your eye.
Point 3 ~ Samet Nang Chee Viewpoint
The sun was so bright that I forgot how cloudy it was before we left. And even though the weather wasn't as bright as the sun, the atmosphere was still good. The sky was beautiful in a different way.
From the pineapple field viewpoint, we hopped back in the car and continued driving. The route was straightforward, with no chance of getting lost. We passed mountains, villages, and a hill under construction, which we assumed would be a future resort. Nearby, we saw a community sports field and a parking lot leading to the **Samed Nang Chee viewpoint**, a popular camping spot. The viewpoint offered stunning panoramic views, but the climb required considerable time and effort, so we decided to skip it for now.
Due to limited time, we decided to explore another viewpoint, **Samet Nang Chee Viewpoint**, located a short distance from the first one.
To say that this is a journey in search of the "heaven of the sea" would not be an exaggeration.
The Allure of Samet Nang She: A Breathtaking Viewpoint
Nestled amidst the captivating landscape of Samet Nang She, one encounters a breathtaking viewpoint known as "SAMET NANG SHE by SEA ANGLE." This vantage point offers a mesmerizing panorama of the azure sea juxtaposed against the towering limestone mountains, creating an unforgettable visual symphony.
The allure of this viewpoint lies in its accessibility. Unlike the first viewpoint, which requires a strenuous hike, "SAMET NANG SHE by SEA ANGLE" is conveniently accessible by car, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a less physically demanding experience. The limited parking space, however, adds an element of exclusivity to the location.
While the current access to the viewpoint is free of charge, the future remains uncertain. There is a possibility that it may become a "Private Area," restricting public access. Nevertheless, during our visit, we were fortunate to enjoy the stunning vista without any entry fees or restrictions.
"SAMET NANG SHE by SEA ANGLE" serves as a testament to the captivating beauty of nature, offering a unique perspective of the island's rugged coastline and verdant mountains. Its accessibility and breathtaking views make it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking an unforgettable experience.
Coordinates: 8.236022, 98.445890 | Located in Moo 2, Khlong Khian Subdistrict, Takua Thung District, Phang Nga Province | Beautiful view, convenient and easy to reach, even the elderly can visit.
Note: Many times, tourist attractions are not suitable for all ages. In a group trip, there may be people of different ages, and sometimes you may want to go with your older relatives. When you see something beautiful, you want them to see it too. Therefore, this review focuses on routes that are accessible by car.
After enjoying the panoramic views at **Samed Nang Chee Viewpoint**, it was time to head to another scenic spot nearby, **Toh Lee Bay Viewpoint**. This hidden gem, discovered by local residents and opened to travelers earlier this year, offers breathtaking beauty just a stone's throw away.
Stop 4: Toh Lee Bay Viewpoint
The path to the viewpoint is on the right. Turn in and drive uphill for about 600 meters with a moderate incline. You will then come to a clearing with a breathtaking 180-degree view. It's…well, it's amazing.
"Tulakeeree Seaview is the first stop where we parked our car and fully immersed ourselves in the atmosphere of Phang Nga Bay. The natural beauty is untouched, the atmosphere is peaceful and free from crowds. This spot is perfect for admiring the natural beauty of the limestone mountains and islands, which are layered on top of each other. You can soak in the stunning views both in the morning and evening, or even pitch a tent and stargaze."
This moment, capture…capture and take in the panoramic views to your heart's content.
We had the opportunity to meet 'Bang Nee', who we had heard about from traveler reviews as the caretaker and pioneer who transformed an ordinary 'mountain' into two spectacular viewpoints. The first is the 'Samed Nang Chee Viewpoint', which everyone knows about now (we haven't been there yet), and the second is the 'Ao Toh Lee Viewpoint', where we are standing right now.
The first viewpoint, which we had just passed by, was the first viewpoint. Following the road down, we came to the Toh Li Bay viewpoint, which was magnificent... The beauty of the view was even better than the previous one because it was a wide expanse and at a perfect level. From here, we could see the sky, the beautiful sea, and the misty atmosphere surrounding the large and small islands in the middle of the sea as far as the eye could see.
This area offers affordable accommodation in the form of individual cabins with stunning million-dollar views. The value for money is exceptional! Next time I come to stargaze, I will definitely consider staying here. Overall, it's quite convenient, with nearby parking and readily available restrooms. The open space is also suitable for camping.
Coordinates: 8.226613, 98.444746 | Located in Ao Makham Bay Village, Khlong Khian Subdistrict, Takua Thung District, Phang Nga Province, Thailand.
Another name you might hear is "Hin Rom Pier," and seeing photos from travelers who have visited before has sparked our desire to see it for ourselves. With a short drive, we reach the Hin Rom community, nestled amidst nature, the sea, mountains, and mangrove forests.
Point 5: Hin Rom Pier
: : Hin Rom Pier brings us closer to the limestone mountains that we saw in the distance earlier. Now, they stand tall before us, with the blue-green sea as their backdrop.
The road to the pier is still a dirt road, and the dust billows behind as you drive. As you drive further, the houses on either side of the road begin to turn into bodies of water with shelters built on stilts in the water. It's like... stepping into another world, surrounded by nature.
Not far away, a long concrete bridge stretches out, with several boats waiting at the pier. The sight of children from the village jumping into the water and playing makes the atmosphere cheerful. We continue driving straight ahead and come across a restaurant inside, with a pier where you can cross over to visit the island, exploring the caves near Ao Phang Nga National Park.
Standing there, one cannot help but be awestruck by the breathtaking view, truly deserving of the title "heaven on earth."
Coordinates: 8.238131, 98.457561 | Located in Khlong Khian Subdistrict, Takua Thung District, Phang Nga Province.
Nothing is greater than nature, and few things in nature, be it mountains, misty seas, or skies, can compare to the allure of the ocean. It acts as a magnet, drawing us to embark on journeys, no matter how far or arduous, just to reach it and witness its wonders with our own eyes. And once we arrive, we find ourselves simply sitting... still.
The stunning view in Phang Nga made us feel the same way :)
Fortunately, the trip was during the rainy season, but it didn't rain. It was just cloudy and threatening. Fortunately, I decided to travel, and fortunately, Thailand has endless beautiful places for us to travel to...
Until next time, we'll see where we'll be sitting... Stay tuned! :)
As the journey continues, there are still many places to explore and stories to tell. Stay tuned for the next chapter of our MINDJourney, and we'll see you soon.
