Confused by the title? What kind of bingsu shop could be the perfect meeting point for foodies and shopaholics? Well, this bingsu shop is no ordinary one. Bingsu by GU is the brainchild of a passionate foodie who carefully selects the finest ingredients and creates unique menu items. But that's not all! Bingsu by GU shares its space with Odaiba Japan, a shop offering high-quality second-hand goods imported from Japan.

How's that? Now you're no longer confused and have a sense of wonder, right? You're probably thinking, "Wow, there's a restaurant like this?" I can tell you that if you follow me and read this review to the end, you'll be even more amazed and want to invite your friends or family to visit this restaurant.

Bingsu by GU: Location and Parking

Before visiting Bingsu by GU, let's take a look at its location and how to get there. The shop is situated within the Odaiba Japan complex, specifically at the entrance of Soi Sai Mai 41, directly on Sai Mai Road. The shop is easily identifiable thanks to its prominent signage displayed at the front and sides of the building.

Once you've located the shop, look for Soi Sai Mai 41 next to it. Turn into the soi, and you'll find a spacious parking lot behind the shop that can accommodate over 10 vehicles.

Overview of Odaiba Japan and Bingsu by GU

Both Odaiba Japan and Bingsu by GU are located in the same area and share the same owner. This allows for a seamless experience, where customers can browse through the second-hand goods at Odaiba Japan and then head over to Bingsu by GU for a refreshing treat. Customers are welcome to visit both stores as often as they like, without any pressure to purchase. The owner is incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the experience even more enjoyable.

The Odai Ba market is a sprawling open-air bazaar offering a diverse array of merchandise, including watches, toys, maternity and childcare supplies, bicycles, models, dolls, guitars, clothing, crockery, glassware, sporting goods, luggage, eyewear, footwear, furniture, and countless other items. Its sheer variety defies comprehensive listing, making a personal visit the most rewarding way to experience its vast offerings.

The product placement at this second-hand store is excellent compared to other Japanese second-hand stores I have visited. ODAIBA arranges its products by category, making it easy to find what you're looking for. For example, watches are divided into two zones: regular watches priced between 100 and 300 baht and branded watches with a 7-day warranty after purchase. This is a significant difference from other Japanese second-hand stores, which typically do not offer any warranty on their products.

The plates and bowls are neatly arranged, and the patterns are attractive. The price of these plates and bowls is sold by weight, 20 baht or 30 baht per unit, depending on the design.

A paradise for shoe lovers, with hundreds of pairs to choose from, try on, and find the perfect fit. Some of these shoes are not even pre-owned, but rather unworn display shoes from Japan. And the best part? Prices start at under 100 baht per pair! So come on down and take a look. With a little time, good eyesight, and the right foot size, you're sure to find several pairs of great shoes to take home. ^^

Before we delve into the delectable bingsu offered at Bingsu by GU, let me briefly mention the ODAIBA store. If you're interested in purchasing second-hand goods from Japan, I highly recommend inquiring with the store about their restocking schedule. Typically, they receive shipments from Japan once a month. During the initial days following a restock, the selection is vast. The images I captured today showcase the store's inventory towards the end of a restock cycle, with approximately 10% of the initial stock remaining.

The sheer variety of products available during the recent launch period is truly astounding!

Alright, I've taken you all on a tour of the second-hand store, and I almost forgot that the purpose of my review today is the bingsu shop! >< But that's okay, let's consider it a warm-up to get everyone walking and burning some energy. I'm guessing that by now, everyone must be starting to feel hungry and craving something sweet and refreshing, right?

As mentioned earlier, Bingsu by GU is prominently located within the Odaiba restaurant, occupying a central position that ensures its visibility. The establishment's origin stems from the owner's passion for culinary delights, fueled by their frequent explorations of diverse gastronomic offerings. This passion, coupled with extensive knowledge of confectionery and access to exceptional ingredients, inspired the creation of a menu featuring beloved dishes previously unavailable in the owner's vicinity, leading to the decision to establish Bingsu by GU.

This is not just about opening a store, but also about creating your own menu, naming your dishes, selecting your own ingredients, and selling them yourself... in the "GU" style. This is likely to appeal to many people, as we have already chosen the best and most delicious options.

Bingsu by GU: A Compact Oasis of Sweet Treats and Collectibles

Bingsu by GU is a charming, air-conditioned haven offering a delightful escape from the bustling city. Its cozy interior boasts 12 intimate tables, comfortably accommodating around 20-30 guests. The walls are adorned with an eclectic collection of hundreds of toys, reflecting the owner's personal passion. Fans of One Piece and Mask Rider will be in for a treat, as the abundance of models from these beloved franchises is sure to spark excitement.

The zone also features characters from other franchises, such as Doraemon, Pokemon, Naruto, Dragon Ball, Popeye, Hello Kitty, Anpanman, Mario, and Disney. This is a paradise for toy enthusiasts like me. Even after seeing it in person, I still feel excited when I review and look at the pictures again.

Please note that the toys displayed on the shelves and in the display cases are the owner's personal collection and are not for sale. We cannot handle them. However, there are some items that we can pick up and play with or take pictures of, such as the giant dolls or the miniature models on the nameplates of the 12 tables. Each table is a unique character, which is very interesting.

Having explored the restaurant's ambiance, let's delve into its menu. Bingsu by GU's menu is categorized into three sections: bingsu, desserts, and beverages. Each item on the menu reflects the owner's preferences and culinary creativity. For instance, their fondness for mangoes and melons led to the creation of mango and melon bingsu. Conversely, the menu excludes items the owner dislikes or is unfamiliar with, such as durian. Despite customer requests, the owner's aversion to this fruit prompted its exclusion. The rationale behind this decision is that the owner would not feel confident recommending a dish they haven't personally sampled and enjoyed.

For today, my friends and I had the opportunity to try a total of 8 dishes, as follows:

1. GU Double Pack – GU Zaa

2. GU Double Pack – GU Drink

  1. GU Fancy Frappe - Strawberry Milk Fancy
  1. Guava Mango

5. GU Melon

  1. GU Yogurtberry

7. GU Cheese Toast

  1. GU Custard Toast

The first two menus we received were the GU Double Pack – GU Zaa and the GU Double Pack – GU Drink. I must admit that when I first saw the glass, I was surprised. Not only was the glass very large, but the design was also very stylish. Each glass had two compartments to hold different types of water. The straws were also beautifully colored and twisted upwards, making them look tempting and intriguing. I highly recommend this menu to anyone who goes with their partner, as there is a chance that your lips will get very close to each other.

The GU Double Pack – GU Zaa menu features Italian soda with a choice of flavors. My wife and I opted for strawberry and kiwi. Before drinking, we stirred the ingredients to ensure they were well-mixed. Both flavors were refreshing, bubbly, and delicious, providing a welcome boost of energy. This is an excellent option for those seeking a refreshing beverage on a hot day.

The GU Double Pack – GU Drink comes with Thai tea and green tea, both of which are very concentrated. I was impressed by the taste, especially the matcha green tea, which the shop has processed in a way that makes it concentrated but without much powder or the astringent feeling that many other shops have.

In conclusion, both of these drinks are well worth the price of 95 baht per glass. If you're looking for a refreshing and flavorful beverage, I highly recommend ordering one of these. However, the choice of which drink to order ultimately depends on your personal preferences. If you're not interested in having two different types of drinks in one meal, you can also order a regular Gu Zaa or Gu Drink for 55 baht per glass. There are a variety of flavors to choose from, including cocoa, coffee, iced milk, Ceylon tea, and iced black tea.

Moving on to another beverage, the GU Fancy Frappe - Strawberry Milk Fancy, is another menu item that left me in awe when it was served. The design and presentation were simply stunning. While the glass size is smaller than the GU Double Pack and the price is higher, the generous amount of toppings makes it worth the splurge.

The drink tastes like a blended strawberry milk, with a perfect sweetness. The toppings are meringue and macaron. This menu is especially recommended for children, or those who love taking pictures and cafes, because it looks very impressive in photos. If you don't like strawberries, you can order caramel or chocolate kit (chocolate + KitKat) instead. The price is the same, 145 baht/glass.

For those who do not want to drink sugary drinks, don't worry! The shop offers free plain water.

Let's move on to the bingsu. Bingsu by GU offers a wide selection of over 10 bingsu options, with new flavors constantly being added based on the owner's creative ideas. Today, I had the opportunity to try three of their bingsu: GU Mango, Gu Melon, and GU Yogertberry.

Taste Review:

Both my wife and I found all three items to be delicious, each with its own unique qualities. The GU Mango stood out due to its shaved ice, which was flavored with sticky rice and mango. The mango topping was not only generous in quantity but also incredibly sweet and flavorful. However, it's important to note that this dish is the sweetest of the three, so those who prefer less sweetness might not enjoy it as much.

GU Yogertberry stands out with its generous toppings of blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries, sprinkled with imported yogurt powder. However, due to the yogurt powder being the main ingredient, the overall taste leans towards sour, even very sour for some. Therefore, this menu is recommended for those who enjoy yogurt, prefer desserts with a sour taste, and those looking for something to brighten their eyes. ^^

The GU Melon is a perfect middle ground for those who prefer a balanced flavor profile, avoiding excessive sweetness or tartness. It's a must-try for melon enthusiasts. The GU Melon's standout feature is the inclusion of additional melon flesh within the ice cubes, resulting in a flavor reminiscent of melon frozen in milk. This combination is a delight for those who enjoy both melon and milk.

Overall Impression of the Bingsu

After trying three different bingsu menus, I can confidently say that the quality of the ingredients and the overall taste were excellent. The ice cream used in the bingsu was delicious in every flavor. In my opinion, this bingsu shop is one of the top choices in the Sai Mai, Don Mueang, Ram Inthra, and Lam Luk Ka areas. I highly recommend giving it a try!

The cup sizes and prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality of the ingredients. A large bingsu can be shared by 2-3 people, and many menu items are also available in smaller cups at a 40-50% discount. The smaller cups are perfect for individual servings. For example, the large GU Mango is 250 baht, while the small is 125 baht. The large Gu Yogertberry is 250 baht, and the small is 145 baht.

To determine the appropriate portion sizes, consider the number of people attending and their desired level of variety. If the group is small but wishes to sample a wide range of dishes, ordering smaller portions, such as individual cups, may be advisable.

Having reached this point, many of you might think that my review is coming to an end, right? Wrong... We still have 2 more menus that we haven't tried yet, and let me tell you, these 2 menus are amazing. They are the GU Cheese Toast and GU Custard Toast.

The GU Cheese Toast is a must-try for cheese lovers. It features a generous amount of Pamesarn and Mosallela cheese on top of a specially-baked bread that has a slightly sweet aroma. The combination of the bread and cheese is simply delightful. However, it's best to enjoy this dish as soon as it's served, as the cheese will start to harden and lose its flavor over time.

For the GU Custard Toast, this menu item features custard toast. The bread remains as delicious as in the previous menu items, but the topping is changed to custard. Personally, for someone who doesn't like cheese like me, I prefer this menu item.

In summary, the toast menu is highly recommended for those who enjoy this type of pastry. The bread is exceptionally delicious and the generous portion size makes it ideal for sharing.

Okay, after my friends and I have devoured 5 sweet desserts and 3 glasses of drinks, I think it's time for us to summarize this review. I will continue to summarize by topic as before.

Date of consumption: Saturday, November 18, 2017

Time: 1:30 PM – 5:00 PM

Number of people: 4

Taste of food: I think it's good. It's one of the shops selling bingsu, toast, and drinks that are delicious and worth trying. Although it may not be as good as the famous franchise shops in luxury malls, I think this shop can compete in the Don Mueang, Sai Mai area, or nearby. Especially the toast, it really impressed me.

Culinary Diversity: Despite its small size and limited seating, the restaurant boasts an impressive variety of dishes. While the menu focuses on three main categories—bingsu, toast, and beverages—the owner has skillfully crafted a diverse selection of options. With a passion for culinary innovation, the owner is constantly developing new menu items, ensuring that repeat customers can always discover something new. In fact, I believe that my wife and I could visit the restaurant three times and order different dishes each time without repeating a single item!

Shop Cleanliness: The shop is sparkling clean and inviting, with the use of mirrors on the walls creating an illusion of spaciousness. The décor is well-executed, featuring toys as a central theme, and soft background music adds to the ambiance. Free Wi-Fi is also available for customers.

Employee service: Good. Requests are fulfilled quickly. Food orders are delivered promptly.

Transportation Convenience: Public transportation options to the restaurant may be limited. While I cannot definitively confirm the availability of public transportation, it appears that the restaurant's location is more suitable for those with private vehicles. However, my knowledge of the specific routes and transportation options in the area is limited. Local residents may have a better understanding of the available transportation options.

Value for Money:

My wife and I found the prices at Bingsu by GU to be reasonable, considering the quality of ingredients used in each dish. The flavors were delicious, and the portion sizes were appropriate for the price.

Summary: Bingsu by GU is a dessert and beverage shop that I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys bingsu, toast, and unique, refreshing drinks. This is especially true for those living in the Sai Mai, Don Mueang, Ram Intra, Lam Luk Ka areas, or within a 15-kilometer radius of the shop. Avoiding the city's traffic congestion is a major advantage. Additionally, Bingsu by GU boasts a unique feature that sets it apart from other shops and malls: its location within the ODAIBA Japan store, which specializes in second-hand goods from Japan. This makes it an ideal meeting point for those who enjoy both shopping and dining. For families where parents enjoy finding good quality, affordable items and children love colorful, refreshing desserts, this is the perfect solution.
