The journey began with a night bus departing at 10 pm. As soon as I boarded, I fell asleep and woke up in Si Satchanalai. It wasn't even 5 am yet. Fortunately, there was a morning market nearby. I sat down to eat some rice porridge and asked the vendor for directions to Si Satchanalai Historical Park. She suggested waiting until after 6 am. The trip started with alms-giving at the market. Once everything was settled, the porridge shop owner called a motorcycle taxi for me. When we arrived at the entrance, the sky was still dark. The motorcycle taxi driver informed me that admission was free during this period. I waited until dawn and then began exploring. As the light grew stronger, I started walking through the Si Satchanalai Historical Park.
The early morning air was crisp and cool, necessitating a sweater. During the two-hour exploration from 7:30 to 9:30 AM, I was the only visitor, allowing for a serene and uninterrupted experience. The site's enduring beauty, despite the passage of time, was captivating. Its vastness provided ample space for leisurely exploration.
Walk to the building covering the archaeological excavation site at Wat Chomchuen.
Walking through the community, we eventually reached Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat Racha Wora Maha Wihan, also known as Wat Phra Prang.
After walking around, I asked a vendor near the temple how to get to Sukhothai. The vendor told me to cross the bridge to the road and wait for a car on the other side of the road. There will be a car going to the city center.
A short drive will take you to the bus station. From there, you can take a wooden songthaew to the old city. The songthaew will drop you off at the Sukhothai Historical Park.
Upon arrival, we rented bicycles from one of the many shops located at the front entrance. With bikes in hand, we set off for Wat Sri Chum, which was already bustling with visitors.
I waited for nearly an hour for an opportunity to pay respects to Phra Ajahn without disturbing others who were also there to worship.
Leaving Wat Si Chum, we arrived at Wat Phra Phai Luang, where there were significantly fewer people, possibly due to the afternoon sun.
Cycled past the ancient kiln.
It's time to step back into the realm of Sukhothai Historical Park. We begin at the monument of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great, where a stone inscription stands nearby for your exploration.
Our journey through the Sukhothai Historical Park began under the bright sun, surrounded by visitors eager to learn about this World Heritage Site. While this wasn't our first visit to the ancient city of Sukhothai, we were once again impressed by the park's excellent maintenance. This time, we noticed a new addition: a tram service complete with an onboard narrator.
The sun has set, the wind has calmed, and the light is getting more beautiful. I was able to see the sunset within the Sukhothai Historical Park.
The previous time, the spotlight was used to illuminate the area. This time, candles were lit, creating a beautiful and magical atmosphere.
Before returning to Bangkok on the 10pm bus, I stopped by the Sukhothai Municipality Walking Street. There was a wide variety of delicious food and other items available, but I mainly focused on eating.
The trip to "One Day at Sukhothai-Si Satchanalai Historical Park" ended with fun, impression, and satisfaction in cultural heritage and ancient sites.
