This trip was initiated by a work assignment in Mae Sot. After completing the work, I decided to visit Umphang to see the children I sponsor and to finally experience the beauty of Thi Lo Su Waterfall.
Traveling from Bangkok to Mae Sot
We can choose to use VIP bus services from the Transport Co., Ltd. according to the budget allocated by the agency. Those who do not want to take a bus can fly directly to Mae Sot. You can check the flight schedules at your convenience.
Traveling from Mae Sot to Umphang
The journey from Mae Sot to Umphang by shared taxi takes approximately 5-6 hours. Shared taxis operate from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
We departed around 9:00 AM. The bus was not very crowded at first, but it became extremely crowded after a while. The skilled driver navigated every curve with precision, causing us to nearly collide with the passengers next to us. We caught glimpses of the scenery along the Doi Loifawng route.
It was almost 4 pm when we arrived at the school where we were visiting our sponsored children. The teacher in charge led us to the guest room and prepared our sleeping arrangements. Initially, we planned to sleep in the district town and participate in activities with the children who live at the school. However, the Deputy Director kindly arranged for us to stay at the school and provided transportation to the nearby town of Lo Su the next day. We spent the night in the guest room reserved for sponsor parents.
The next morning, the air was cold and the school was filled with fog.
At 8:30 am, the car arrived at the school to pick us up. The school arranged for student volunteers, who were also students at the school, to be our guides. They took us on a tour, explained the information to us, and took pictures for us. We all had a lot of fun. Before going to Ti Lo Su, we stopped to buy rice wraps. It was already 10 am when we arrived at the parking lot at Ti Lo Su. We had a lot of fun on the way.
Upon arrival, we followed the students to the waterfall.
The road is lined with lush greenery, which I find very pleasing.
Water is now visible, and the sound of a waterfall can be heard in the distance.
This leads us to another magnificent and breathtaking waterfall in Thailand, considered by some sources to be among the top six in the world.
We took many photos during our hours at the waterfall. On our way back, we stopped to capture more images, as the scenery along the way was consistently beautiful.
After arriving at the parking lot, we took a break and had lunch that we had brought with us. We talked with the students about their studies and living conditions. We then returned to purchase a complete set of encyclopedias to send to the school. We arrived at the school safely.
After leaving Thilosu, we stopped by Wat Nong Luang, which boasts a magnificent church built entirely of golden teakwood.
After dropping the children off at school, it was time to pack up and head back to Mae Sot. Luckily, a teacher was also going to Mae Sot, so we were able to hitch a ride. On the way, we saw some beautiful light at Phop Phra.
Upon reaching Mae Sot, I immediately purchased a bus ticket back to Bangkok that same night. This trip was another memorable one, as it allowed me to combine work with leisure. I had the opportunity to observe the living conditions of the children, donate encyclopedias to aid their education, and enjoy the local sights.
