Baan Nam Pern Resort, Bang Khon Thi
After lunch at Bang Noi Floating Market, it was time to head to our accommodation. We had booked an afternoon boat trip on the Mae Klong River for that day.
Our accommodation is not far from Bang Noi Floating Market. Just cross the bridge and drive a little further, and you will arrive at "Baan Nam Pern Resort". We haven't explored much yet because we need to prepare to board the boat. The boat will pick us up around 2:00 PM.
The pier of Ban Nam is a resort.
At exactly two o'clock in the afternoon, the boat was waiting for us at the pier of Baan Nam Pern Resort. The driver was slightly confused because we had informed him that there would be four of us, but only two remained. After introductions, it was time to board the long-tailed boat and cruise along the Mae Klong River.

The ramparts of Bang Kung Camp feature sentry posts and mounted cannons.
As we ascend the pier, we encounter a small zoo maintained by the Bang Kung military camp. This menagerie houses horses, sheep, goats, camels, and other animals.

Cross the road and you will find Wat Bang Kung and the Phothi Samphan Church.
The original ordination hall of Wat Bang Kung, Phra Pok Klaeng Church, was built during the Ayutthaya period. However, it is now covered by the roots of large trees, including bodhi, banyan, and krai trees. From the outside, it appears to be a large group of trees rather than a church inside.
These ancient tree roots not only provide structural support to the temple but also contribute to its solemn atmosphere. The temple houses a large Ayutthaya-period Buddha statue in the Mara-Vijaya posture, known as Luang Pho Nil Mani or Luang Pho Dam, which is revered by the local community. Additionally, the interior walls of the temple are adorned with late Ayutthaya-period murals depicting scenes from the life of Buddha.

Model of Warfare in the Thonburi Period
The rear of Wat Bang Kung has been transformed into a replica of the Bang Kung Camp, a historically significant naval base in Thailand. King Ekathat ordered the establishment of the camp, which was named "Bang Kung Camp" and surrounded the temple with walls to serve as a spiritual center and a place of reverence for the soldiers.
Muay Thai Techniques
After the fall of Ayutthaya for the second time, Bang Kung Camp was abandoned. It was not until King Taksin the Great established Thonburi as the capital that he ordered Chinese people from Rayong, Chonburi, Ratchaburi, and Kanchanaburi to gather and form a military unit to guard the camp. This led to another name for the camp: "Bang Kung Chinese Camp."
Execution by sword in the past
In 1768, the Burmese king of Ava led his army through Kanchanaburi to besiege the Chinese camp at Bang Kung. King Taksin the Great ordered Phraya Maha Montri (Bunma) to lead an army to assist the Chinese soldiers and drive back the Burmese forces, resulting in a crushing defeat for the enemy.
Following a period of near-abandonment for almost two centuries, Bang Kung Camp was designated as a Boy Scout camp by the Ministry of Education in 1967. (This designation has since been revoked.) A shrine to King Taksin was erected as a memorial.
