Who enjoys exploring historical districts and admiring ancient houses and buildings?

This time I had the opportunity to visit Rayong, so I didn't miss the chance to walk around the old town on Yomjinda Road.

Before we head out, let's check in to our accommodation for tonight, the Holiday Inn & Suites Rayong City.

The hotel is located on Sukhumvit Road, adjacent to Laem Thong Shopping Mall, which has now been renamed Passione Shopping Destination. The location is convenient for traveling to various tourist attractions.

This is the hotel lobby.

The Superior Room we booked is 28 square meters and offers city views. If you prefer ocean views, they also offer sea view rooms.

The bed is very comfortable.

At Holiday Inn, we cater to all preferences by offering both soft and firm pillows, ensuring a comfortable night's sleep for every guest.

Let's take a look at the bathroom.

A clear glass partition separates the dry and wet areas.

The light on the mirror is perfect for girls' makeup.

The bathroom is fully equipped with fragrant toiletries.

After a satisfying rest, we went for a stroll on Yaowarat Road, a 10-minute drive from the Holiday Inn.

In the past, Yomjinda Road was considered the heart of Rayong. Many people built houses in this area. There was also a fresh market, a cinema, a bank, and the house of Iam Yomjinda, all located on this road.

Phraya Sri Samut Phokha, also known as Iam Yamchinda, was the last governor of Rayong.

He was the one who ordered the construction of the first major road, cutting through the city center, and named it Yom Chinda Road.

We parked our car in an alley off Yom Chinda Road and walked through to find the Chey Restaurant.

Continuing past the slightly outdated shop, you will encounter the first building constructed on this street, the "Father Singh-Mother Kray Building." Previously, it served as a store selling pepper and imported clothing from China.

This building reminds me of the old buildings in Kad Kong Ta, Lampang Province, because it has a Western-influenced architectural style combined with the use of intricately carved wood, such as the "Bua Nga" pattern, in the ventilation openings.

Examining the construction year of the building (1913), it becomes evident that several other structures in Kad Luang were built around the same time. Examples include the Yian Tai Lee Kee Building (1913) and the Kanchanawong Building (1908).

Kajanavong Building, taken during my trip to Lampang.

Next to the Phosing-Maekrai building is the Ra Yong shop, which is considered one of the famous dessert and coffee shops in Rayong.

Walk to the end of the street and turn left. You will see a bridge over the canal (Municipal Bridge 1).

We then walked back the way we came to visit the Rayong City Museum.

Passing by the bright blue Boonsiri house.

The Old Teakwood Building: This row of houses is another building that we are very fond of. It was once the shop of Seng Huah Heng, owned by Mr. Thian Sindhuvanich, and later became the site of the Bangkok Metropolitan Bank (the first bank in Rayong).

This is a traditional movie theater that uses vintage film projectors and old-fashioned voice narration to screen classic films.

Davinci Studio is owned by Mr. Niwat Pao-in, a distinguished artist of Rayong Province in the field of visual arts (photography, 2006). The studio serves as an exhibition space for his collection of collectibles, paintings, and photographs, and also features a vintage coffee corner for visitors to enjoy.

Both shops were closed when we visited, likely because we arrived on a weekday evening. On Saturday and Sunday evenings, there is a walking street, which would likely be more lively and have more shops open.

A few steps further, you will reach the Rayong City Museum.

This place showcases a collection of old artifacts, including household items.

Vintage magazines

Cassette tapes. They bring back memories of my childhood.

There are also old photos.

The museum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Admission is free.

I had originally planned to have dinner at Kru Moo's Kitchen, but it turned out that the restaurant was closed (special occasion). It was a real shame, because not only is the food delicious, but the restaurant itself is the former home of the last governor of Rayong, whose granddaughter is Kru Moo.

No worries, come and have a meal at Chey Restaurant. Their motto is "The Thai Way, The Chey Way".

The interior of the shop is decorated with antique items.

We ordered stir-fried glass noodles with crispy pork rinds sprinkled on top. It was delicious.

Scrambled eggs with chili, shallots, and holy basil.

Pad Thai without noodles

The restaurant is considered to have delicious food with a wide variety of menus to choose from. You can order a single dish or a set of dishes with rice. There are also many desserts and drinks to choose from. The restaurant is open every day from 11:00 AM to 10:30 PM.

We continued our dessert journey to Rayong.

The menu is so tempting that I could cry. All the desserts look delicious, but I don't have much room left in my stomach.

We ordered iced black coffee and plum juice to go with the sweet and savory snacks. In fact, most people recommend Ovaltine, which is available hot, cold, or blended.

Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, this roti is coated in unsweetened Ovaltine powder for a delightful, non-cloying treat.

The first time I saw the color of the "Sangkhaya Ping", I thought it wouldn't be very delicious. But when I tried it, it was much more delicious than I expected. Raiyong shop is open every day from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

With full bellies, our eyelids begin to droop. It's time to return to our lodgings.

Farewell with a glimpse of bread at The Brasserie restaurant, Holiday Inn & Suites Rayong City Centre.

The breakfast spread was extensive, with a wide variety of delicious options.

Thank you for reading this far. :)
