The story of Laos...in Vang Vieng
I've been thinking for a long time whether I should write this or not. I went there back in 2013, and I don't remember all the details, but I did go there and it was correct, so I have to write it down. Maybe some of the information will be useful to someone.
Okay, like before, the past trips had few scenic photos, mainly focusing on individual photos. I'll try to improve on that in the next trip.
For this Laos trip, I'll redeem myself by telling you the expenses.
Read carefully: 7 days 5,000 baht
Hey, actually 5,000 baht is enough to eat every meal, drink beer every day, and eat heavily. But it doesn't include shopping.
This means that food in Laos is really cheap, entrance fees to various places are also not expensive, and transportation is also cheap.
We started our journey from Bangkok by taking a first-class bus to Nong Khai. Then we crossed the border to Vientiane. We took a bus across the Mekong River, which offered beautiful views.
Long queues at immigration, many Thais entering via Vientiane. Just need a passport.
We went to a total of 3 cities together. Our route was Vientiane-Vang Vieng-Luang Prabang-Vientiane.
Today we will skip to Vang Vieng first. This city is one of our most memorable places, it is very beautiful.
From Vientiane to Vang Vieng, we traveled by van for 240 baht. It wasn't too far, just over an hour, and we arrived in Vang Vieng.
The van dropped us off at our accommodation, and then we asked for a map and contacted them about traveling to Luang Prabang. We asked the accommodation to book a van for us.
Beautiful accommodation, spacious room, private bathroom, with wifi, clean, only 500 baht per night. Is it cheap?
(Accommodation in Laos we found from http://www.hostelworld.com)
Arrived... very chill
Let's go for a walk on the suspension bridge.
How to get to Tham Pu Kham???
From the bridge where we went for a walk, we hailed a local pickup truck, but we also gave a small tip. The distance was about 6 kilometers. Some people walked, but they couldn't take it. There was a lot of dust. Every time a car passed by, it was like we were going to die. But the view was beautiful all the way.
Before climbing the cave, you must first rent a flashlight to shine on the frogs.
Walking down from the cave, there is a blue lagoon where you can swim.
Wow, it's so beautiful.
Two days of pure relaxation in Vang Vieng.
Waking up in the morning, we sat and sipped coffee in Vang Vieng. In the late morning, the owner of the accommodation took us to wait for the van to travel on the long road to... Luang Prabang.
Along the way, we wanted to capture the beauty of nature. Even when we stopped to use the restroom, the view was breathtaking. We took hundreds of photos and almost missed our ride.
From Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang, the distance is quite long. We slept, chatted, and took photos along the way. Finally, we arrived at our destination.
From the point where the van dropped us off, we had to take a tuk-tuk to get into the city.
Upon arrival at our accommodation, we stayed at Lao Backpacker for 500 baht per night, booked through the familiar www.hostelworld.com. However, we were thoroughly disappointed. The room did not resemble the photos, and the bathroom was practically unusable. A friend who accompanied us was unable to sleep and ended up switching hotels that same night. The reason? The toilet bowl in their room was positioned right next to the bed.
We've used www.hostelworld.com many times before, both in Asia and Europe, but we've never encountered this problem before. So I just want to warn you to do your research on accommodation before booking. Don't believe everything you see in the pictures.
Okay, let's go. Let's sleep now and get some rest. We'll wake up early tomorrow and go into the cave.
Stop by to take a picture, uh, stop by to enjoy the view for a while.
The Tham Ting cave we're going to is outside the city. We're going to rent a songthaew for the whole day. It's cheaper and we can go wherever we want. Just tell the driver.
We had to take a ferry across. There were both tourist boats and long-tail boats. We chose a long-tail boat, I don't remember why. I guess it must have been cheaper. The entrance fee to the cave was 20,000 kip. Inside the cave, there were many Buddha statues.
There are a lot of fabrics for sale, all beautiful and not too expensive.
After visiting Tham Ting Cave, we continued to the most beautiful waterfall in Laos (as far as I've seen in Laos). Tad Kwang Si Waterfall is truly stunning. You can swim in the water and there are changing rooms available.
After playing until the evening, we went back to the city to walk around, shop, and eat Lao papaya salad, pho, and many other things. The food here is delicious, affordable, and not expensive at all.
After walking until we were tired, we returned to our accommodation. No, we were tired and thirsty, so we went to drink some Lao beer. We went to an area where people eat and drink, and there were many restaurants to choose from. We happened to meet the owner of the restaurant, who was Thai. So, we had a long night.
I went during New Year's and had the chance to float a lantern with everyone. It was fun...
Tomorrow we continue... Luang Prabang
Day 2 in Luang Prabang
(There are photo spots all the time)
Visiting Luang Prabang wouldn't be complete without visiting the temples. Many temples are located close to each other. One that I remember is Wat Xieng Thong, which is absolutely stunning. The entrance fee is 20,000 kip.
From the temple, we continued to the top of Mount Phousi. The entrance fee is 20,000 kip. It was tiring, but the view was beautiful.
How tired am I? Well, I had to climb 328 stairs.
How beautiful?? Beautiful with the champaca trees all the way up, up to the top, you will find more beautiful views. It's worth the effort.
After a tiring descent from the mountain, we ended our Luang Prabang job with a visit to the famous bakery "Joma Bakery". It was delicious and affordable, with drinks costing less than 100 baht each (cheaper than some less popular shops).
Let's go on an adventure in Vientiane!
So much fun... Vientiane
Vientiane can be visited in one day, but it takes several naps to get there.
We traveled by bus from Luang Prabang at 3 pm and arrived in Vientiane in the morning. The road was two lanes and not smooth, so it took a long time. There was no toilet on the bus, but we stopped once. But if it hurts so much that you can't hold it anymore, you have to go to the bathroom, right? So I gathered my courage and told the driver to stop by the side of the road because I couldn't hold it anymore. The driver said to wait a minute, but I told him twice that I couldn't wait any longer. He finally stopped, so I ran into the bushes. But I'm sorry to the other passengers who were sitting quietly. You must have been dying to pee too. You all went into the bushes. So, I was the hero, right?
I forgot to mention that if they stop here to let you use the bathroom, go ahead and use it. Don't wait for the next stop. If they stop on the side of the road, you'll have to use the bushes. But don't be shy, everyone does it.
We have arrived in Vientiane. We checked in to take a shower and leave our bags. Without further ado, let's explore Vientiane!
We explored the tourist attractions in Vientiane by gathering information from various websites and then... both walking and hiring tuk-tuks (not sure what they're called here). The price is negotiable, so feel free to bargain. Don't be afraid to haggle a lot, especially if you're splitting the cost with others.
The Arc de Triomphe, inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, is a popular tourist destination. The entrance fee to climb to the top of the Arc de Triomphe is 3,000 kip.
The Emerald Buddha Temple was once a temple, but now it is a museum and has a souvenir shop. The entrance fee is 5,000 kip. And Wat Sisaket.
The golden stupa of Pha That Luang is very beautiful in photos. The entrance fee is 5,000 kip.
Take a walk at the mall. In a bit, I'll come back to wash my hair at the salon. I guess I have to try it.
This trip took 7 days and cost 5,000 baht, excluding shopping.
