Since the beginning of this year, there has been a type of food that I have never eaten before and I really want to try it. I have been trying to find information here and there, but I haven't had the chance to go yet because of the time and the price, which I secretly think is a bit high. But in the end, heaven has given me an opportunity by sending a colleague from the company next door to get to know me. And he asked me to help him take pictures of his wedding. And the reward he gave me was

Two dining vouchers for Sukosol Hotels (2 vouchers each), one of which is a restaurant I've been wanting to try for a long time, the Afternoon tea set at Café Cha at The Siam Hotel. Let me tell you, the first time I opened the envelope and saw the voucher for this restaurant, I almost cried. I've been wanting to eat there for so long. #excited #freefood #T___T
Let's take a look at the voucher. The voucher says that it is for one person to enjoy an afternoon tea set. It expires on July 31, 2016. The day I went to eat was almost the expiration date. I got it more than two months ago, but I didn't have time to go. And I guess I'll use the other two vouchers for Pathummas Restaurant at Sukosol Hotel on the last day as well. T____T
Here are the details of the date I went to eat.
Date: Sunday, July 17, 2016
Time : 14.00-16.00 hrs.
Number of people: 2
Café Cha is a coffee shop located in The Siam Hotel, which is near the Sang Hi Bridge and Sukhothai Palace. The shop is located at the front of the hotel, near the road, so that walk-in customers can easily access it without disturbing the guests who are relaxing in the back area by the Chao Phraya River.
For me, this is the second time I have had the opportunity to visit this hotel. I must say that I am still impressed by the beauty of this hotel, as always. With its traditional Thai-style decoration, the quiet and private atmosphere, the location, and the beautiful and spacious bathroom, I would say that I would like everyone to have the opportunity to try it out. They have designed it very well.
Café Cha is open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. However, the Afternoon tea set is only available from 2:00 PM onwards. The café has a nice atmosphere and a limited number of tables. There are 5-6 tables in the air-conditioned indoor area (seating approximately 20 people) and 5-6 tables in the outdoor area. If you have a preference for where you would like to sit, I recommend making a reservation in advance. When I visited the café, it was quite busy and all the indoor tables were full.
Let's take a look at the atmosphere in the tea shop. The pictures of various tea utensils are beautifully arranged.
Upon entering the restaurant, the staff will present you with a menu. Generally, there are two ways to order:
Option 1: Order the Afternoon tea set prepared by the restaurant. We will each get one drink and one set of snacks. However, if you order the Set for 2 people, it will be slightly cheaper.
- Afternoon tea set for 1 person, priced at 750 baht
- Afternoon tea set for 2 people, priced at 1,350 baht
Option 2: Order each item separately, specifying the desired drink and dessert. This method offers the advantage of choosing only the desserts you like, and it may be slightly cheaper if you only want a few pieces. However, if you plan to eat the same amount as the set offered by the restaurant, ordering this way will be significantly more expensive. Therefore, this ordering method is suitable for those who only want 2-3 pieces of dessert.
Note: The food items on the menu do not include 7% VAT and 10% service charge. For the first ordering method, we can choose drinks from the left side of the menu. Some items are hot, some are cold. If you have any questions, please ask the staff. And even if there are two of us, we can order the Afternoon tea set for one person and order one more drink. Because the amount of snacks in the set they give is quite a lot!!
For today, I ordered a Mixed Thai Herb, a hot tea with a blend of various herbs. My wife ordered an iced cappuccino. I waited for about 5 minutes before the waiter brought both drinks to the table. He informed us that the dessert would take a little longer as it needed to be warmed and prepared.
The Mixed Thai Herb tea comes in a beautiful antique-style bottle and has a fragrant aroma similar to chrysanthemums. I tried smelling it and loved it, but when I tasted it, I couldn't detect any chrysanthemum flavor. The taste is like an unsweetened traditional herbal drink. When I first tried it plain without any snacks, I felt a bit strange, but when the snacks arrived and I had them together, I must say they were a perfect match.
As for the amount of tea in the pot, it's quite a lot. I can pour almost 10 cups from it.
My wife's iced cappuccino looked incredibly delicious, and the taste was absolutely amazing. It was rich, with a smooth and thick layer of foam. The glass it was served in didn't have any sugar added, but we could add some from the small cup that came with it.
This cold cappuccino is a winner on its own, but when paired with the dessert, it just doesn't work. It's much better suited to a hot tea, which helps cleanse the palate and encourages continuous eating. As a result, while I was enjoying the dessert, my wife stole several glasses of the Thai mixed herb from me. T___T
After about 10-15 minutes, the staff brought out the dessert tray. From what I've researched, the Afternoon tea set is usually served in 3 tiers like this, with each tier separated into different categories.
If you order the set for 1 person, you will get the same size tray, but the amount of snacks inside will be less. As for me, I ordered the set for 2 people, so I got twice the amount of snacks. So, if you want to know how much snacks are in the set for one person, just divide it by 2.
Let's start with the top floor, which is the first floor. What do we have here? The number you see is for a set for 2 people. So, if you order a set for 1 person, you will get half of the items on the list. ^^
The top layer (Sweet Plate) will consist of
- 2 slices of Fruit Cake
- 2 slices of chocolate tart
- 2 cupcakes
- 4 macarons
Let's break down the taste and see how each item is.
- Fruit cake: Dense texture with lots of raisins. I really like this one because I already love fruit cake and raisins.
- Chocolate tart: This tart is packed with rich, dark chocolate. If you're a chocolate lover, you'll definitely enjoy it. Personally, I only had a small bite and gave the rest to my wife, as I'm not a big fan of chocolate.
- Cup cake: I got two flavors: Banana Chocolate and Banana Salt. The overall taste is similar, but the toppings and decorations are slightly different. The taste is delicious. Creamy and sweet. The bottom is a banana cake.
- Macarons: There are a total of 4 flavors as follows. The good thing about ordering the Set for 2 is that we get to try almost every flavor that the shop has.
Coconut: Fragrant and delicious, and considered a macaron with less sweetness.
Lime: A bit sour, the taste is different from the others, which is good.
Jasmine: Very fragrant and a unique flavor I've never encountered before. The overall taste is like eating Thai desserts from Phetchaburi.
Lychee: Delicious, fragrant, sweet. This flavor is probably the sweetest of the four, but it's still not as sweet as macarons from many other places.
Let's move on to the middle floor, the Savoury plate. This floor will have all the following items:
- 2 cucumber sandwiches
- 2 puffs
- 6 Mini Burgers
As for the taste, it's like this.
- Cucumber Sandwich: The bread was too thick, which meant you couldn't really taste the cucumber. But in a way, that might be a good thing, because I think this dish is a bit of a mismatch, and it was my least favorite item today.
- Puff: Crispy and delicious. I recommend eating it while it's still hot.
- Mini burgers: Not too big, with a total of 3 fillings. The overall taste of all 3 passed the test.
Smoked salmon: Delicious, a clear winner.
Ham and cheese: Delicious, also to my liking.
Egg + Vegetables: At first glance, I thought this dish would be a fail, but after taking a bite, I had to say "Wow!" It's more balanced and flavorful than I expected.
Oh... the mini burger bun is quite dense. Eating it plain might be a bit dry and get stuck in your throat. Some people might not like it, like me at first. But after taking a sip of tea, it goes down smoothly and feels more balanced.
And now we've reached the bottom layer, the Scone Plate. This plate comes with fruit and scones. The fruit includes two pieces each of dragon fruit, watermelon, and pineapple. There are a total of four scones, two plain and two with raisins. And of course, I took care of the two with raisins because I love raisins, while my wife hates them. 555555
This dish comes with 3 different types of Scone dip:
- Strawberry jam
- Lemon : A little sour.
- Cottage cream: Creamy and buttery flavor.
Overall, the Scone's taste was delicious and to our liking. For those who prefer a dip, feel free to choose your favorite.
And of course, since I had just had lunch before arriving at the restaurant, and the amount of pastries I received was quite a lot, there were some items that I could only try one piece of each. The restaurant was kind enough to offer a take-away service, which the staff informed me of when I placed my order. They said that if I couldn't finish everything, I could take it home. They wrapped it up very well, and even included all three dips for the Scone.
Okay, let's take a closer look at this afternoon tea set and see what I think. As usual, I'll break it down into different aspects.
Taste of food: I must say that both the food and drinks passed the test. While they may not be mind-blowingly good, they are definitely above average and left me feeling satisfied. The macarons, for instance, were inventive and less sweet than those found elsewhere. Out of everything I tried, the only dish that didn't impress me was the cucumber sandwich.
Food Variety: From the 3 dishes that came in the set, I think it's a good variety. There are savory dishes, sweet dishes, and fruits. In total, there are more than 10 types of food. There are also many types of tea and coffee to choose from.
Shop cleanliness: There is no problem with this point. Because it is located in a hotel of this size, this point is easily passed.
Employee service: Although there are only 2 employees in the shop, their willingness to serve, their way of speaking, and their attentiveness are very good. For example, I dropped a fork on the floor once, and before I could even raise my hand to call the staff, the staff walked over to the table and brought a new set of utensils. I was very impressed with this. As for the speed of service, if the restaurant is full like it was before I left, there may be a bit of a wait. This is because the two staff members have to do everything, from taking orders, serving, making tea and coffee, and warming up pastries. However, if there are few people in the restaurant, like when I first arrived, there is no problem with this at all.
Travel Convenience: The Siam Hotel may be a bit difficult to reach by public transportation as there are no direct buses or trains. You will need to walk a short distance. However, it is not too far. For those who are driving, it may be a bit confusing as the roads in this area are one-way. However, there is plenty of parking available and it is easy to find a spot. Oh... for those who prefer to travel by boat, the hotel has its own private pier and you can take a boat from Sathorn Pier. However, please check with the hotel to be sure.
Value for money: Looking at the price alone, Set 1 for one person at 750 baht and Set 2 for two people at 1,350 baht is quite expensive, as this price does not include VAT and service charge. Including these, the price of Set 1 for one person comes to around 900 baht, and Set 2 for two people comes to around 1,600 baht. This price could be used to eat a good buffet until you're full. However, if you just consider that this is the price of an Afternoon tea set, then it is a reasonable price. The price of Afternoon tea sets at hotels of this level is around this price or even higher. T___T And Café Cha also has the advantage of selling Set 1 for one person, which can be shared by two people, as well as selling pastries separately as individual plates or pieces. This can help save a little money.
Summary: If you are a fan of Afternoon tea sets and are looking for a beautiful location with a lovely atmosphere, delicious pastries, and excellent tea to enjoy with a loved one or for a casual business meeting, this establishment is a great option. This is because afternoon tea is not time-limited and does not involve heavy meals that require rushing to finish a conversation. Instead, it is an opportunity to relax, chat, take stylish photos, and share them on social media. However, if you are looking for something that will fill you up for days and feel like you are getting your money's worth, afternoon tea might not be the best choice for you. ^^
And that concludes my review. If there are any shortcomings, I apologize. This review is based solely on my personal experience on the day I visited. Thank you all for following me to the end. See you again in the next review. I wish you all a happy meal, no falls, no drops when you go to a restaurant. Let me end with a picture of this set. A picture of my wife in the atmosphere next to Café Cha, which I think is very beautiful. Every time I go there, I can't help but take a picture of this angle. The first two pictures were taken in June last year, and the last two pictures were taken from the afternoon tea in this review.
