When it comes to Rod Dee Ded, many people probably think of the deliciousness of beef noodles first. But today, I will take everyone to experience another deliciousness of Rod Dee Ded that is just as delicious, spicy, and exciting as beef noodles.
Today, I will take you to experience the delicious taste of "Rot Dee Ded by Nop". Currently, "Rot Dee Ded by Nop" has two branches: Rama 4 (near Chula Soi 9) and Pratunam (next to Pantip Plaza). The latter is my main target for this food tasting trip because this branch offers a wide variety of dishes.
The "Rot Dee Ded by Nop" restaurant, Pratunam branch, is located right next to Pantip Pratunam. The restaurant is situated on the corner with a bright red sign, making it very easy to spot.
The storefront is a two-room space with air conditioning. In front, there are tanks with fresh shrimp and fish, as well as an area where papaya salad is prepared. This branch offers both papaya salad and seafood dishes.
The restaurant has approximately 15 tables that can accommodate around 80 people. There are also tanks containing fresh seafood ingredients, such as shrimp, crab, and shellfish, used in the restaurant's dishes.
The walls of the restaurant are adorned with large, easy-to-read menu boards. However, there are many more dishes available that are not listed on the boards. These additional options can be found in the printed menu.
Let's take a look at the appearance and taste of the food. However, due to the extensive menu at Rod Dee Ded by Nop, Pratunam branch, this review is based on my experience sampling dishes over two days. If I had tried everything in one sitting, I'm sure I would have burst!
Let's take a look at the food I tried on my first visit. The highlight of the restaurant is the Isaan food, and here is the menu and prices:
- Thai papaya salad, 80 baht
- Corn salad with salted egg, 100 baht.
- Spicy minced pork salad, 120 baht.
- Spicy pork bone soup, 120 baht.
- Steamed shrimp with glass noodles, priced at 350 baht.
- Sticky rice, 15 baht
The food arrived promptly, and each dish was visually appealing, especially the vermicelli-baked prawns, which featured exceptionally large prawns.
Let's dive into the flavors of each dish, starting with my personal favorite: the corn salad with salted egg. Everyone who joined me for the meal agreed that this dish was the most delicious and satisfying of the evening.
Next, we had the papaya salad, which had a mild flavor and was not too spicy. Overall, it was tasty, but not as delicious as the corn salad we had earlier.
The third dish, spicy pork bone soup, was delicious and perfectly spicy for my taste. The level of spiciness was just right for someone who doesn't eat very spicy food like me, and I think foreigners would also enjoy this flavor. It's the kind of dish that makes you slurp and feel a slight tingle on your tongue every now and then.
The next dish was larb moo, which was average and did not have anything particularly noteworthy.
The final dish of the first meal was steamed shrimp with glass noodles. This dish was delicious. The three shrimp were very large and had a lot of meat. The glass noodles were chewy and tender, and the flavor was good. The shrimp used in this dish were fresh, having just been caught from the tank. So, there is no need to worry about the freshness.
Having finished the first meal of Isaan food, let's move on to the second meal, which consists of other types of dishes. Today, the menu I tried includes:
- Pad Thai with seafood, 150 baht.
- Stir-fried squid with salted egg, 200 baht
- Tom Yum Goong, priced at 350 Baht.
- Beef noodle soup, 50 baht
- Watermelon smoothie 50 baht
The overall appearance of the food is as shown in the picture.
Let's break down each dish individually. Starting with the first item, "Seafood Pad Thai," this dish is served with a beautifully fried egg on top of the Pad Thai, making it visually appealing. The overall taste is delicious and satisfying. The noodles are cooked to perfection, and there is a generous amount of shrimp and squid. The only unusual ingredient I noticed was the addition of cabbage, which I believe is a unique recipe of the restaurant.
The next dish was salted egg yolk squid, which my wife and I both agreed was delicious. It's no wonder that the restaurant staff told us it was a popular best-seller. The squid was fresh and the stir-fry was perfectly seasoned.
The third dish, "Tom Yum Goong," comes with three large prawns, making it a hearty and satisfying portion. The bowl is also filled with mushrooms and other ingredients, creating a visually appealing and flavorful dish. The taste is delicious and well-balanced, with a rich and spicy flavor that is not overpowering. The spiciness is more of a gentle heat, allowing the sour notes to shine through.
This dish is best enjoyed hot with a bowl or two of steamed rice. It's a truly satisfying and delicious experience.
Next on the list is a must-try dish that's synonymous with this restaurant: the renowned beef noodles. The taste lives up to its reputation as the restaurant's top menu item. While the fresh beef was slightly tough today, the other components, particularly the braised beef, were exceptional.
To conclude this meal, let's have a glass of refreshing watermelon smoothie. This delicious and refreshing watermelon smoothie is perfect for those who are tired from walking and want something refreshing to drink.
Now that I've had the opportunity to savor the dishes at Rot Dee Ded by Nop at the Pratunam branch for two full meals, it's time for the conclusion of this review.
Food Taste: This restaurant offers delicious food, from its signature beef noodle soup to its Isaan dishes and other menu items. I was particularly impressed by the taste of many dishes, such as the corn salad with salted egg, the spicy soup with tender pork bones, the baked shrimp with glass noodles, the squid stir-fried with salted egg, and the tom yum soup with shrimp. The other dishes were also of a good standard.
Culinary Diversity: This restaurant boasts an impressive variety of dishes, ranging from noodles and papaya salad to Isaan cuisine and seafood. Whether you're dining solo and looking for a quick bite or enjoying a large gathering with a desire to linger and indulge, this establishment offers a menu that caters to all preferences.
Shop Cleanliness: Passes inspection. No issues found in this area.
Employee Service: The service was fast and efficient on both days I visited. This may be partly due to the fact that there were a lot of staff and few customers in the restaurant.
Accessibility: While this branch of Rot Dee Det is not located near a BTS or MRT station, it is situated on Phetchaburi Road, which is served by numerous bus routes. Therefore, getting to the restaurant should not be too difficult. However, traffic congestion during peak hours may be frustrating. For those driving, parking is available at the Pantip Plaza for a fee of 20 baht per hour.
Value for money: While some may find the prices of certain dishes a bit high, the location, delicious food, and air-conditioned, clean, and comfortable dining environment justify the cost.
Summary:
The Rors Dee Ded restaurant by Nop, located in Pratunam, offers a delicious and diverse menu. While not exceptional enough to warrant a special trip, it provides a satisfying dining experience for those seeking tasty Isaan cuisine or fresh seafood in a comfortable, air-conditioned setting. The restaurant's cleanliness and hygiene standards are commendable, making it a suitable choice for both locals and tourists. For those with foreign friends interested in trying Thai food, Rors Dee Ded offers a well-balanced flavor profile that avoids excessive spiciness, catering to a wider audience. However, those with a strong preference for spicy food may need to request additional spice from the chef.
This concludes my review. If there are any omissions or errors, I apologize. This review is based solely on my personal experience on the day of my visit. Each individual's experience may vary depending on the service and taste they receive.
