If you recall my review of The Okura Prestige Bangkok's Hearts & Roses Afternoon Tea, which I wrote about in this review https://th.readme.me/p/7286, I mentioned that "the most notable feature of the Afternoon Tea here is that the tea set theme changes every 3 months, following Japanese festivals." And now, the first 3 months of this year have passed, and I had the opportunity to return and try their new tea set, the one many have been waiting for: the "Sakura Blossom Afternoon Tea Set."

The "Sakura Blossom Afternoon Tea Set" was officially launched on April 1st and will be available until June 30th. However, my wife and I had the opportunity to try it a day early, on Friday, March 31st. This attracted a lot of attention from other patrons enjoying afternoon tea at The Okura Prestige that day, as the set was incredibly charming, especially with its adorable pink color scheme.

The price of this tea set remains the same as the previous one, at 1,190 ++ baht/set. The set includes two drinks. To get to The Okura Prestige Bangkok, you can take the BTS Skytrain and get off at Phloen Chit Station. Look for the exit sign that says "The Okura Prestige Bangkok" (or Exit 2). The hotel is located next to the Park Ventures Ecoplex building.

Upon entering the hotel, proceed to the 24th floor via the elevator to access the Up & Above Bar. The designated area for Afternoon Tea features comfortable sofa seating, accommodating groups of two to larger parties. For groups exceeding four individuals, it is advisable to make a reservation and inform the hotel in advance to ensure proper seating arrangements.

This set features 11 Sakura Blossom-themed dishes, including 4 savory and 7 sweet options. The beverage menu remains the same as the previous set, offering a selection of Mariage Frères teas, Saro Royal Lotus teas, and illy coffee, served hot or cold. Additionally, iced chocolate, Thai iced tea, and various other beverages are available to suit your preferences.

Impressed by the delightful aroma and taste of Mariage Frères tea during our previous visit, my wife and I decided to include another cup of this brand in our order today. For the second beverage, we opted for a refreshing non-tea, non-coffee option, ultimately choosing chilled lemongrass water.

During my previous visit, I selected tea based on recommendations from The Okura Prestige Bangkok staff. However, this time, we noticed that they had actual tea leaves for each variety available for us to smell. We requested to smell them, and ultimately chose Blanc & Rose, which is a White Tea Base.

The tea and lemongrass water were served at the table shortly after we sat down. The Blanc & Rose tea was fragrant and pleasant, not too strong, with a hint of rose aroma. The lemongrass water was presented beautifully, but the taste was standard compared to other lemongrass drinks.

After the drinks, it's time for the savory and sweet dishes of the Sakura Blossom Afternoon Tea Set. This is the full view of the set, which comes in a very cute pink color scheme. Anyone who loves this color will surely melt or scream with delight at first glance.

Let's take a look at the menu and taste of each dish. Let's start with the four savory dishes first. The English names of each item are very long, so for easy understanding, I will use simple, everyday terms.

• Jerusalem Artichoke Vichyssoise with Lemon Zest: A creamy soup made with Jerusalem artichokes, cream, garlic, and lemon zest. This dish offers a harmonious blend of flavors and textures, with a smooth and velvety consistency.

• Smoked Salmon and Cucumber Sandwich on Pumpernickel: This dish features smoked salmon on pumpernickel bread. The bread is a whole wheat and rye blend with a crispy texture. However, those who dislike cucumbers may not enjoy this item as the sandwich is generously topped with them.

• Parmesan Custard Tartlet with Ratatouille: This tart features a topping of ratatouille (French stewed vegetables), which has a slightly spicy kick. Those who are sensitive to spice should be cautious, while those who enjoy a bit of heat will likely find it quite satisfying.

• Mini Brioche with Duck Rillettes and Orange: The mini brioche is soft and pleasant. The orange flavor is sweet and slightly tart, dominating the duck rillettes. This may make the duck flavor less noticeable.

Let's move on to the 7 dessert items, starting with the first 4 items that have the name "Sakura" in front of them.

• Sakura Yuzu Jam Roll: This jam roll combines strawberries and yuzu citrus, offering a delightful flavor with a subtle sweetness.

• Sakura Daifuku: The flower-shaped topping appears to be sugar, offering a delightful crunch. The mochi dough below is remarkably chewy and stretchy, unlike any daifuku I've encountered before. The filling is a harmonious blend of red bean paste and strawberry, striking a perfect balance of sweetness.

• Sakura Cremeux: This item is a bit difficult to describe. The top layer is a thin, clear jelly, while the bottom layer resembles a cream. The topping is pickled sakura flowers imported from Japan. The flavors are well-balanced, and I enjoyed it.

Sakura Macarons: A Culinary Delight

The Sakura Macarons are a visually stunning treat, featuring intricate designs inspired by The Okura Prestige Bangkok. The food-safe ink and printing process ensure that these macarons are not only beautiful but also safe to consume.

The macarons themselves boast a perfectly balanced sweetness, while the interior filling remains a delightful mystery. Despite our best efforts, my wife and I were unable to identify the exact ingredients, but we suspect a blend of various berries.

Next, we have three desserts:

• Chocolate Truffle: A bite-sized, round chocolate confection filled with a yogurt ice cream-like center. The perfect treat for a quick and enjoyable indulgence.

• Strawberry Shortcake: The cake has a smooth texture and is filled with strawberries. This is another menu item that is well-balanced in terms of flavor.

• Scones with Pickled Cherry Blossom: These scones are topped with pickled cherry blossoms from Japan. The pickled cherry blossoms are quite salty on their own, so it is recommended to eat them with the scone to reduce the saltiness. The scones come with four jams: apricot, orange, raspberry, and cream cottage. Personally, I prefer the apricot jam, as it is the most balanced. The orange jam is a bit too bitter for my taste.

To conclude this review, let's summarize my wife's and my overall impression of this Afternoon Tea set. As usual, I will break it down into different aspects.

The afternoon tea was delightful for both my wife and me. We enjoyed both the tea and the sweet and savory treats. The Mariage Frères tea was particularly impressive, as always. While the set was called "Sakura Blossom" and presented in a sweet pink color scheme, the main ingredient was actually strawberry. Therefore, this tea set would be especially appealing to those who enjoy strawberries.

The afternoon tea offered a standard selection of four savory and seven sweet items. However, the variety within each dish was impressive, with unique combinations like ratatouille and the signature mochi that set this tea set apart.

Shop cleanliness: The place is airy, visually pleasing, and clean. There are no issues in this regard.

Employee service: As always, it was a breeze. The staff was very attentive, prompt, and courteous.

Accessibility: The Okura Prestige Bangkok boasts convenient access, being directly connected to the Phloen Chit BTS station via a skywalk. Drivers should be prepared for potential traffic congestion in the area. As a perk, afternoon tea patrons receive complimentary four-hour parking validation.

Value for money: Personally, for the price of 1,190++ baht per set, you get 2 drinks and food that tastes and looks like this, I think it's worth it. Especially the delicious aroma of the tea here, which I am impressed with every time I come here. So it's no wonder that the day I went, almost every table was full. As for the empty tables, there were signs saying that they were reserved.

In conclusion, if you are seeking a stylish afternoon tea experience with convenient access, comfortable seating, delectable tea, and aesthetically pleasing food, along with a rotating menu to prevent culinary monotony, this establishment is highly recommended. It caters to all your requirements.

Note: The "Sakura Blossom" Afternoon Tea set is only available at The Okura Prestige Bangkok until June 30th. Therefore, those who are interested should make an effort to try it as soon as possible. I recommend making a reservation before visiting. Reservations and inquiries can be made by calling 02-6879000.

This concludes my review. If there are any omissions or errors, I apologize. This review is based solely on my personal experience on the day of my visit. Each individual's experience may vary depending on the service and taste they receive.
