When it comes to the hot season, many people immediately think of the beautiful yellow fruit, mango. This leads to a surge in mango-based dishes every year. However, for mango lovers, we can enjoy it all year round without getting tired of it, especially with restaurants offering visually appealing dishes that tempt our taste buds.

Today, I, "Wife Finds, Husband Uses," will take you to a newly opened restaurant called "The Mango Garden," a place overflowing with mango-based dishes! The restaurant is located on the G floor of Siam Paragon, near After You.

The name "Mango" in the restaurant's name does not indicate a franchise. This establishment has only two locations in Thailand: the original on Phi Phi Island and a second branch. The Phi Phi Island location is renowned and consistently ranks among the top restaurants on Trip Advisor. Many visitors consider it a must-visit destination on the island.

The Mango Garden Siam Paragon branch is a small restaurant with approximately 10 tables and a capacity of 30-35 people. The restaurant is decorated in yellow, black, and wood tones, which complements the restaurant's logo of a mango picker. The main menu consists of two categories: savory dishes and beverages. Most of the dishes feature mangoes as a primary ingredient, but there are a few exceptions for those who do not enjoy mangoes. This caters to individuals who may be visiting the restaurant with friends who enjoy mangoes but do not personally care for them.

The dishes I had the opportunity to try that day included the following:

• Sunrise Mango (215 THB): A royal recipe of sticky rice with mango and dried fish.

• Garden Ruben Toast (245 THB): Toasted sticky rice with mango and homemade ice cream.

Mango Coconut Pudding (175 THB): Ripe mango, coconut pudding, and mixed grains.

• Mango (110 THB): Mango juice

• Mango with Passion Fruit (130 THB)

The Mango Garden: A Refreshing Start with Mango and Passion Fruit Juices

The Mango Garden opens the show with mango and passion fruit juices, served in generously sized glasses. The price falls within the standard range for mango juice, with each glass costing between 110-130 baht. Both drinks are generously filled with mango flesh, making a strong first impression in terms of presentation.

In terms of taste, both are equally delicious and intense. Plain mango juice is slightly sweeter, while the passion fruit blend has a subtle tartness that balances the sweetness of the mango without overpowering it. Ultimately, the preference depends on individual taste. I personally prefer plain mango juice, while my wife enjoys the passion fruit blend.

Note: I apologize for not capturing a photo of the mango and passion fruit juice, but it looks very similar to the mango juice. The only difference is that the mango and passion fruit juice has small black dots mixed in. Other popular menu items include mango juice with grass jelly and mango juice mixed with coconut water. Choose whichever you prefer, or if you don't like any of them, you can always enjoy a glass of plain water. The restaurant offers free water, but it's self-service.

A Culinary Masterpiece: Sunrise Mango and Dried Fish

Let's delve into the sweet treat of our meal: Sunrise Mango, a royal-style sticky rice with mango and dried fish. Its presentation is visually captivating, featuring two distinct sticky rice mounds: plain and butterfly pea flower infused. Each mound, adorned with gold leaf and sesame seeds, exudes elegance. The accompanying mango, artfully arranged, boasts a generous size and vibrant color.

The dish also includes coconut milk and dried fish, which the restaurant is very proud to present. This is because the way it is served, with gold leaf and sesame seeds sprinkled on the sticky rice, is a traditional way of eating it. This is different from the modern way of eating sticky rice with roasted soybeans. The dried fish served with it is also made from wild snakehead fish, not the commonly farmed snakehead fish. Therefore, in terms of taste and smell, it is more fragrant and appetizing.

Overall, my wife and I enjoyed this dish. The sticky rice was soft and fluffy, not clumpy, and the mango was perfectly sweet. The dried fish was also delicious, and we enjoyed it both with the sticky rice and on its own. The coconut milk is served separately, so you can add as much or as little as you like. It has a rich flavor with a slightly salty note, and you can tell that it's made with high-quality ingredients. The restaurant takes pride in its coconut milk, emphasizing that they use only fresh, grated coconut, no soaking, no preservatives, and real milk and butter in the preparation.

For those who do not prefer dried fish, an alternative menu option is available: "Sticky Rice with Mango, Royal Style." This dish resembles the original but excludes dried fish and is offered at a 30 baht discount.

The next dish is Garden Ruben Toast, a mango sticky rice toast consisting of two slices of lightly toasted bread, two flavors of sticky rice, three scoops of ice cream, and coconut milk.

The toast was just okay, but I loved all three ice cream flavors: coconut, mango, and chocolate. The chocolate wasn't too bitter, and it was just the right amount of sweetness. The mango was also fragrant and rich. The Mango Garden's ice cream is homemade with their own recipe and uses sugar imported from Italy. They don't add any ingredients that slow down the melting process, so it's a bit like gelato.

This dish presents a slight challenge in terms of consumption due to the combination of bread, sticky rice, and ice cream. While taking a single bite might prove excessive for some, I strongly encourage attempting to savor all elements together. Notably, the bread, when combined with the other components, elevates the overall flavor significantly compared to consuming it alone.

The final dish of this meal is Mango Coconut Pudding, which the restaurant claims is suitable for both vegetarians and those with dairy allergies. This is because the restaurant uses plant-based cream and avoids gelatin in the pudding, opting instead for Agar-Agar, which is derived from seaweed and therefore contains no animal ingredients.

This dish consists of coconut pudding, ripe mango, and granola with a topping of grains such as oatmeal and sesame seeds. Overall, I like the taste of this dish. The coconut flesh provided may not have a strong or fragrant flavor, but the amount provided is quite large and the flesh is soft and easy to chew.

Okay, now that we've tried all the dishes, let me summarize my thoughts on The Mango Garden.

Date of consumption: Monday, May 1, 2017

Time: 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM

Number: 2 people

Taste of the food: Personally, I am someone who enjoys eating mangoes. Mango sticky rice and mango juice are my favorites. The Mango Garden's dishes were all to my liking. All four or five dishes I tried were excellent. Even if there were minor flaws, they did not affect the overall flavor.

Food Variety:

This is both a strength and a weakness. For mango lovers, this restaurant is a paradise, offering a wide variety of mango-based dishes and drinks. However, for those who are not particularly fond of mangoes, the menu might be a bit overwhelming, with only a limited selection of non-mango options.

**Shop Cleanliness:** The shop is clean and beautifully decorated. I particularly like the design and layout of the shop. In terms of tidiness, the day I visited was during the soft opening, so some construction work was still pending final details. However, I believe that by mid-May at the latest, everything will be 100% complete and tidy.

Employee service: Good, fast. Because the shop is small, it only takes 4-5 steps to reach the counter and the kitchen, so there is no problem in this regard.

Accessibility:

The Mango Garden is conveniently located in Siam Paragon, making it easily accessible by both BTS and numerous bus routes. Ample parking is available, except during peak hours when finding a spot may require patience and a bit of searching. In extreme cases, parking may not be available, necessitating parking elsewhere.

Value for money: While the price may seem a bit high at first glance, it becomes more reasonable when you consider that the food and drinks are made with mangoes. A glass of mango juice costs around 110-130 baht, while desserts range from 180-240 baht, which is comparable to many other types of desserts. Moreover, The Mango Garden not only offers delicious flavors but also generous portions. Some dishes are large enough to be shared between two people. Therefore, I believe that the value for money is excellent.

Summary:

This restaurant is a great choice for mango lovers, those with a sweet tooth, or anyone looking for a stylish and unique spot to hang out with friends. The food is visually appealing and delicious, and the location is convenient. However, if you don't enjoy mangoes or sweet treats, this might not be the best option for you, as these are the restaurant's main highlights.
