Welcome everyone. Today, I, "Wife Finds, Husband Uses," will take you to taste delicious food at Taihei Japanese Restaurant, Banyan Tree Bangkok Hotel. First, let's start with the journey. The location of Banyan Tree Bangkok is on Sathorn Road, near Rama IV Road. The most convenient way to travel is by private car or taxi. When you arrive at the hotel, press the elevator to the 53rd floor. When the elevator opens, you will find Taihei Restaurant in front of you.
Taihei Restaurant has two floors, the 53rd and 54th. However, the dining area is not very large, with each floor accommodating only 20-30 people. Therefore, it is highly recommended to make a reservation in advance to avoid disappointment and long waiting times.
The 53rd floor of Taihei Restaurant features two Japanese-style tatami tables, regular tables, and counter seats with stunning views. On this floor, there is also a counter where chefs prepare sushi and sashimi, offering guests a close-up view of their culinary artistry.
Breathtaking Views at Banyan Tree Bangkok
The Banyan Tree Bangkok offers stunning views of the city, particularly from its various dining venues. While some restaurants boast panoramic vistas of the bustling metropolis, others provide serene glimpses of the lush greenery of Lumphini Park.
Cityscapes and River Bends:
Several restaurants at the Banyan Tree Bangkok offer breathtaking views of the Bangkok skyline. Diners can marvel at the cityscape's vibrant energy and architectural marvels, including the iconic Chao Phraya River winding its way through the urban landscape.
Tranquil Greenery:
In contrast, the Taihei restaurant presents a different perspective. Here, guests are treated to a view of the city's verdant oasis, Lumphini Park. The lush greenery provides a sense of tranquility and escape from the urban hustle and bustle.
A Feast for the Senses:
The Banyan Tree Bangkok's dining experience extends beyond the culinary delights. The stunning views from its restaurants add another dimension to the dining experience, creating a truly memorable occasion. Whether it's the vibrant cityscape or the serene parkland, the views at the Banyan Tree Bangkok are sure to impress.
The 54th floor features an open kitchen for teppanyaki, as well as seating in front of the chef's cooking station. Additionally, a private room is available for up to 10 guests, offering an intimate dining experience.
The restaurant has two kitchens for teppanyaki. The chef usually cooks in the main kitchen, but if you want privacy and are dining with 3-4 friends, you can choose to sit in the small kitchen and have the chef cook for you privately.
The sentence is already in English and does not require translation.
Let's take a look at all the dishes my wife and I enjoyed for this meal. The complete menu is as follows:
• Teppanyaki Set: Tenderloin Australian Beef (THB 1,300++)
• Kurobuta Tonkatsu (350++ THB)
• Miso Yakizakana Set (THB 580++)
• Tsuki Sushi Set (THB 1,800++)
• Tempura (450++ THB)
• Spider Roll (510++ THB)
• Hot or iced green tea - Refill (100++ baht)
Now that we know the names and prices, let's take a look at the appearance and taste of each item. Let's start with the Teppayaki Set: Tenderloin Australian Beef. When dining on teppanyaki, you can sit at any table in the restaurant. However, if you want to see the chef prepare the food up close, it is recommended that you sit on the 54th floor, near the kitchen.
This is the Tenderloin Australian Beef, expertly prepared by the chef and ready to be devoured. It's safe to say that it looks incredibly tempting! The set comes complete with garlic fried rice, soup, and various side dishes, ensuring a satisfying and well-rounded meal.
After the food set was placed on my table, I secretly gave a high score to the amount and appearance of the food, which looked very delicious. After I tried it, I had to add several more points to this item. The meat cooked by the chef was incredibly tender. It was so impressive that I would say this dish is worth the price. Anyone who loves meat should try it at least once. The doneness and tenderness of the meat were excellent. The garlic fried rice was also well-cooked, not too dry or oily, and most importantly, it was fragrant with garlic.
The green tea here has a pleasant flavor, not too bitter, and a smooth aftertaste.
Let's move on to the Tonkatsu Kurobuta, or deep-fried Kurobuta pork. You can order this dish in two ways: a la carte, like I did, or as a lunch set. The lunch set comes with side dishes, miso soup, and dessert for a small additional cost. For example, the Tonkatsu Kurobuta costs 350++ baht a la carte, but only 380++ baht as a lunch set, which is an increase of just 30 baht. It's definitely worth it to order the set, unless you're planning on ordering a lot of other dishes like I did and won't be able to finish everything.
The Taste of the Dish
The dish's flavor was good. The pork was fried to a perfect crisp without being overly tough. The exterior was crunchy, while the interior remained tender. While the overall taste may not rival specialized restaurants focusing on specific dishes, it certainly met the expected standard and did not disappoint, reflecting well on the hotel's reputation.
Next up is the Miso Yakizakana Set, or grilled miso codfish set. This is a rather unique dish, as we typically encounter grilled codfish with salt or soy sauce. However, the miso-grilled version is a surprisingly harmonious combination. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The fish was tender, easy to flake, and infused with the fragrant aroma of miso.
This lunch set comes with side dishes, soup, and dessert. The side dishes on the day I visited were seaweed salad and small squid, which were delicious.
The lunch set menu features a diverse selection of meats, including pork, beef, chicken, fish, and even shrimp. Prices range from 380 to 580 baht, making it an attractive and affordable option.
This is a special campaign for teppanyaki lovers called Teppanyaki Unplugged, which is an all-you-can-eat teppanyaki buffet. The campaign is available during dinner hours from Monday to Saturday, and all day on Sundays. The price for Teppanyaki Unplugged is 1,499 ++ baht per person, which includes one soft drink or beer.
The Taihei Restaurant offers lunch and dinner services daily, with specific hours as follows:
Midday session: 11:30 AM - 2:30 PM
Evening session: 6:00 PM – 10:30 PM.
Note: The Teppanyaki Unplugged campaign is a special promotion available only in June 2017. Therefore, those who are interested should hurry.
Let's move on to the food for this meal, the Tsuki Sushi Set, or the chef's choice sushi set. This set includes sushi, sashimi, and sweet shrimp. The fish used includes salmon, tuna, hamachi, otoro, and engawa. In terms of taste, it must be said that it is very good value for money. The fish is fresh, the texture is smooth and bouncy, and it is very delicious. The otoro in particular is something that is incredibly delicious. The meat is soft and melts in your mouth. Thinking about it makes me want to eat another bite... Why, oh why, didn't the chef put in 2 bites that day? T___T
Next up was the Tempura, the restaurant's signature dish, which many have praised for its exceptional quality. After trying it ourselves, my wife and I can confidently say that it lives up to the hype. The shrimp were incredibly large, and the chef's masterful execution resulted in a light and crispy batter that was completely free of oil. This dish truly stood out as a highlight of our dining experience.
Note: Typically, a single serving contains only 3 shrimp and fried vegetables. However, today the chef has made a special exception and included 4 shrimp.
The Spider Roll, a soft-shell crab maki, is one of the restaurant's signature dishes and has received positive reviews from many diners. I concur with these assessments. While I typically prefer sushi over maki, with eel or salmon brûlée maki being my favorites, the Spider Roll has earned a place on my list. The soft-shell crab is crispy, and the accompanying sauce, with its subtle sweet and salty notes, complements the crab without overpowering its flavor. The combination is simply perfect.
A Sweet Ending: Coconut Ice Cream and Juicy Melon
After the savory dishes, it's time to indulge in something sweet. The dessert I tried was the same as the one included in the lunch set: a scoop of ice cream with refreshing melon.
The ice cream, typically served in a small portion, boasts a smooth and creamy texture with a delightful coconut aroma. Importantly, it strikes a perfect balance, avoiding excessive sweetness or saltiness. It's safe to say this is a truly delicious coconut ice cream.
The accompanying melon is both refreshingly cool and intensely sweet and fragrant. Together, they create a delightful dessert that perfectly concludes the meal.
Note: For those who did not order the lunch set but would like to end their meal with ice cream, in addition to the coconut ice cream I recommended earlier, I would also like to recommend the yuzu orange ice cream. This is because it is a unique ice cream flavor with a fragrant and sweet yuzu orange taste that is quite different from regular oranges. For those who order the ice cream as a scoop, the size of the ice cream will be considerably larger than the ice cream included in the lunch set.
Let's now summarize our review of the Japanese restaurant Taihei at Banyan Tree Bangkok. We'll go through each aspect one by one, as usual.
Date of consumption: Monday, May 29, 2017
Time: 12:00 PM - 2:30 PM
Number: 4 people
Food Review: A Culinary Delight
The majority of the dishes were to our liking, particularly the Australian beef teppanyaki, which was incredibly tender and flavorful. The sushi and sashimi were also excellent, featuring fresh, bouncy fish that lived up to the hotel's reputation. However, the two dishes that truly impressed us were the tempura and the Spider Roll, a maki filled with soft-shell crab. These two items were highly praised by many, and we wholeheartedly agree. If we have the opportunity to dine at this restaurant again, we will undoubtedly order these two dishes once more.
Food Variety:
While the menu may not be extensive, it covers a wide range of popular Japanese dishes, including sushi, sashimi, teppanyaki, and various fried options. Additionally, the selection of meat includes pork, chicken, shrimp, beef, and fish, ensuring a diverse and satisfying culinary experience.
Restaurant Cleanliness: The restaurant is clean and visually appealing, befitting a hotel of its caliber. Notably, the open layout with ample windows creates an airy atmosphere and offers stunning views of the Bangkok skyline.
Employee Service:
The service was prompt and efficient, with no cause for frustration.
Transportation Convenience: Public transportation access to the hotel is limited as it is not located near any MRT or BTS stations. Guests may need to take a taxi or motorbike from the nearest station. For those driving, ample parking is available. However, be mindful of traffic congestion, especially during peak hours in the evenings.
Value for money: Some people might find the price of the food a bit high, especially when compared to other Japanese restaurant franchises. However, it's important to remember that hotel restaurants have different pricing considerations. In my opinion, the quality of the ingredients, the presentation of the dishes, and the taste I experienced at Taihei Restaurant made the price worth it. The lunch set and the Australian beef teppanyaki were particularly good value for money.
Summary: Taihei Restaurant @ Banyan Tree Bangkok is a Japanese restaurant that carefully selects its ingredients. It offers a unique and interesting menu compared to many other restaurants. The food is delicious, and the service is excellent. Moreover, the restaurant boasts stunning views. In my opinion, this restaurant is suitable for those who want to enjoy high-quality Japanese food in a quiet atmosphere with few other diners. It is also an ideal location for business meetings in a relaxed setting. However, be prepared for hotel-level pricing.
