Hello everyone, today I might be a little strange because today I will review a mobile SIM card!! But don't think it's just an ordinary mobile SIM card and rush to close this article. Because now this is the mobile SIM card that I have named as the best mobile SIM card for travelers who love to travel in Asia!!

The impetus for this mobile SIM card review stems from my upcoming travel plans. Over the next 4-5 months, I will be embarking on numerous international trips, including two visits to China, two to Japan, and one each to Indonesia and Singapore. As an avid social media user, I sought a convenient and affordable solution for maintaining internet connectivity throughout my travels. My search led me to the "True Travel Sim Asia."

Before we look at the results of using this SIM card, let's first take a look at what True Travel Sim Asia is and which countries it can be used in. In simple terms, True Travel Sim Asia is a prepaid SIM card that, when inserted into your mobile phone, allows you to make calls, send SMS messages, and use the internet in the target country without having to activate any additional functions or subscriptions. Currently, the SIM card can be used in 13 countries: South Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Qatar, Myanmar, Philippines, Macau, and Malaysia.

This list of Asian countries includes top destinations frequently visited by tourists. A single SIM card can provide seamless connectivity throughout these locations.

Note: Previously, True Travel Sim Asia's promotional materials stated that it could only be used in the first 7 countries. However, as of July 2017, the SIM can now be used in an additional 6 countries, bringing the total to 13 countries as listed above.

The True Travel Sim Asia costs 399 baht and can be purchased at True Shop, 7-11, or airports. It provides free internet access in the target country for 8 days, with 4GB of high-speed 4G data. After the data limit is reached, the speed will be reduced to 128 Kbps until the end of the validity period.

Upon reaching the high-speed internet data limit before the validity period expires, users can simply top up their accounts to purchase additional packages. Various top-up channels are available, including prepaid cards, internet banking, call centers, the True iService application, and the TrueMove H Roaming application. Two package options are available for selection:

Package 1: 150 Baht

This package offers 1 GB of high-speed internet access in the target country for 3 days. The package will be terminated immediately upon reaching either the data limit or the time limit.

Package 2: 299 THB provides 8 days of internet access in the destination country. Users can enjoy high-speed 4G data up to 4 GB. Once the data limit is reached, the speed will be reduced to 128 Kbps until the 8 days are completed. The package will then be automatically terminated.

After understanding the general overview of True Travel Sim Asia, let's take a look at the activation process. The steps are simple and straightforward: 1. Purchase the SIM card from authorized retailers. 2. Register the SIM card using your national ID card. If you purchase the SIM card at a True Shop or 7-Eleven, the retailer can assist you with the registration process. 3. Travel to your destination country. 4. Insert the True Travel Sim Asia into your mobile phone and wait for it to connect to the partner network. You will receive an SMS notification shortly after, confirming that you can now use the internet in that country.

Note: True Travel Sim Asia is a 3-in-1 size SIM card, which means it comes in all three sizes. To use it, simply choose the size that fits your phone and insert it. If your phone receives an SMS from the system but cannot connect to the internet, please enable the Roaming Function on your phone. If you still cannot connect, please refer to the manual included in the package for troubleshooting tips and support channels.

Now that we have successfully activated the feature, let's take a look at the results from the locations I had the opportunity to visit.

Bali Island, Indonesia (Indosat signal)

The internet speed was mediocre, bordering on poor in some areas. Despite the phone displaying a 4G signal, the connection was often significantly slower than expected, even in popular tourist destinations. Overall, I was not impressed with the internet experience here.

Java Island, Indonesia (Indosat signal)

The internet speed was excellent, significantly better than in Bali. In many areas, the speed was incredibly fast, making it a joy to use. While there were a few spots with signal drops, such as on the way to Kawah Ijen or Bromo, upon arrival, the signal was strong enough for comfortable use. Overall, I was very pleased with my experience using the True Travel Sim Asia in Java.

Singapore Changi Airport

The service functioned flawlessly, eliminating any potential frustrations. Moreover, it proved more convenient than relying on airport Wi-Fi, as we could access the internet immediately upon landing, bypassing the cumbersome process of registering for airport Wi-Fi.

This is the result of using True Travel Sim Asia, which I had the opportunity to try for 6 days, which is just right for the package. During these 6 days, I mainly used the internet through various programs such as LINE, LINE Call, Facebook, Google Map, and Google. I also used Wifi in some accommodations. As a result, on the last day of my trip, I still had some high-speed internet left to use. If I have the opportunity to use this SIM card in Japan and China, I will tell you more about it. Before I finish this review, let me summarize the pros and cons of this SIM card for everyone to read easily.

Benefits

  • Easy to find and affordable
  • Simple and convenient to use. Just register once when you purchase the SIM card. Then, when you travel to a listed country, simply insert the SIM card into your phone, enable roaming, and you're ready to go.
  • Can be used in 13 countries, all of which are popular tourist destinations in Asia.
  • Available in all 3 SIM card sizes, ensuring compatibility with any phone model.
  • Easy to top up and offers packages for both high and low internet usage needs.
  • Continuous internet access throughout the package duration, even when switching between countries. For example, if you travel to Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore within 8 days, you will have uninterrupted internet access.
  • The first day or the first Kb of internet usage will only be counted when you first insert the SIM card in a foreign country. The system will then start counting the time until the 3 or 8 days are complete, based on a full 24-hour cycle.
  • True Travel Sim Asia can be used as a regular SIM card in both Thailand and abroad. This means you can make calls, send SMS messages, etc., with charges according to the network provider's rates.
  • After your trip, you can keep the SIM card for future use by simply topping up before your next trip. One top-up will extend the SIM card's validity by 90 days. (Don't worry if you see on the SIM card package that one top-up extends the validity by 30 days. This information is outdated. True has now increased it to 90 days.)
  • You can check your remaining internet data through the True Move H Roaming application. However, I was busy during my trip and didn't register for it. If you have time and use this SIM card frequently, I recommend downloading and registering for this application.

Disadvantages

  • Speed, stability, and coverage area depend on True's partner networks in that country, which may not be the best or most popular networks. As a result, you may experience frustration with the service at times.

Summary: True Travel Sim Asia is a reliable mobile SIM card for frequent travelers in Asia who require constant internet access. Its key advantages include multi-country coverage, affordability, easy top-up options, and a straightforward activation process. While internet speed and stability may vary across countries, the convenience outweighs these minor drawbacks. For casual tourists who prioritize convenience over internet quality, this SIM card is a suitable choice. However, for users seeking superior quality, purchasing local SIM cards in each destination is recommended, albeit with the trade-off of increased complexity and cost.
