Where do the heartbroken go to mend their wounds?
...I've heard that the new landmark of the lower northeastern region is Buriram Province. Without further ado, I decided to escape the hustle and bustle of the capital and take a long bus ride to check in and experience the way of life of the people in the lower northeastern region. For this trip, I will be basing myself in Ban Sanuan Nok, Buriram Province.
The Journey to Ban Sanuan Nok: A Cultural Gem in Buriram
At 6:00 AM, the tour bus departs from Bangkok, embarking on a journey to Ban Sanuan Nok, a village nestled in the Huai Rat district of Buriram province. Situated on the Huai Rat-Krasang rural road, Ban Sanuan Nok lies 2 kilometers from the district center and 12 kilometers from Buriram city.
This ancient village boasts a rich history spanning over 200 years. The majority of its residents communicate in the Khmer language, adding a unique cultural layer to the experience. Ban Sanuan Nok is emerging as a cultural tourism destination, offering visitors a glimpse into the traditional way of life and the vibrant heritage of the region.

Upon arrival, the village headman personally welcomed us with a **futuristic-looking pickup truck**, making us feel warm from the first moment we met. As we drove into the village, we were surrounded by nature, with the sounds of birds chirping and cows grazing peacefully.
Upon arrival at the village, the village headman and villagers warmly welcomed us with genuine smiles. They performed a traditional บายศรีสู่ขวัญ ceremony for all of us, which is believed to bring good fortune and blessings. This ceremony is a true reflection of the villagers' cultural beliefs and practices.
Following the auspicious "Bai Sri" ceremony, villagers prepare a traditional performance called "Ruea Mod," an ancient folk dance from southern Isan. Local delicacies are also served during the show, offering a taste of the region's culinary heritage. These include banana curry, fish chili paste, and boiled vegetables, all boasting exquisite flavors.

It's time to check into your homestay, a traditional village house. Currently, there are 9 houses available, with **prices starting at 350 baht per night**. This **includes dinner, breakfast, and an alms offering set**. The atmosphere of the homestay is authentic, allowing you to truly experience the local way of life. At night, step outside and gaze up at the sky, where you'll be greeted by a dazzling display of stars! The beauty is indescribable...
Good morning... At 5 am, the host woke me up to breathe in the fresh air and prepare to offer food to the monks in the morning. It is a merit-making activity according to the way of life of the villagers outside the city. After making merit, I feel very full of merit and joy.
After completing our morning routines and personal tasks around 7:00 AM, a shuttle took us to Wat Sanuan Nok, where we offered and shared breakfast with the monks. Afterward, we were given a tour of the temple's ordination hall, which showcased the rich history of the local community.

Subsequently, the village headman drove a space shuttle to visit a must-see highlight, another highlight of the trip to experience the culture of the villagers outside the conversation, which is the ancient market.
Ancient Market
Ancient Market: The Ban Son Nuan Nok community market is a place where the best and most unique products of the community are sold, allowing tourists to purchase souvenirs. These include handmade products, high-quality silk, and local snacks and food. Locals say that visitors must try these products when they come to the market.
Venture into the heart of the alleyway to discover a traditional house that recreates the lifestyle of local villagers, offering tourists a unique opportunity to capture photos and experience the authentic Khmer community. Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere, savor delicious local cuisine, and find the perfect souvenirs to share with friends and family.
This trip to Buriram Province brought me joy from the locals and a sense of fulfillment from experiencing their traditional culture. I learned about and witnessed their ancient way of life, which is still practiced today. I saw the green fields and rice paddies, which city dwellers rarely see.
